Moyes sacked by United

“Sir Alex gave me a call and asked me to come to his house,” said Moyes. “I was expecting him to say, ‘I’m going to take one of your players’. But the first thing he said to me was, ‘I’m retiring next week’. And his next words were, ‘You’re the next Manchester United manager’, so I didn’t get the chance to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’. I was told that I was the next manager and that was enough. It was incredible. Within half an hour he was talking about the squad and the players and the staff. I couldn’t believe it.”

And this perfectly sums up why he was destined to fail......

What an absolutely spineless way to approach a meeting with another manager

Moyes and Ferguson behaved dishonourably (I now realise) in sewing up a succession without having the decency to involve Moyes' then employers....
Then Moyes' behaviour in the window last year.
They gave him a six year contract for goodness sake.....
I take no joy in watching a man's life ambition crumble in the space of a few weeks. He'd been working towards this chance since he was playing in Bristol....it's his life work. Just think how that must feel. I take no pleasure in his humiliation.
No idea how you can say Moyes acted dishonorably then finish with such pathos about the man, putting aside evertonian feelings surely your touching concern for the game means arrogance and duplicity deserves all the odium going?

Btw all indicators of Moyes pay off indicate he was on a 1 year rolling contract not a 6 year term as previously trumpeted. Dumping the most stable job in top flight football for "guaranteed" trophies and glitz was a given in his eyes. Therein lies Moyes problem his self serving nature over-rides whatever judgement he may have. He always had one eye scanning the horizon for "better" jobs and barely made any secret about it - just not right from an Everton manager.

This women's institute waffle from evertonians leaves me cold.

I feel for anybody who has had a life dream shattered. If we had capital punishment in this country and a serial murderer went to the gallows, I would simply feel sad rather than relish the outcome.

Please don't patronise me with 'touching concern'....I care about the game with which I grew up and has somehow been soiled by this saga. That's a legitimate view surely.

And 'women's institute waffle' is just insulting. Leave it out.

I wonder at what point, if any, he stood there and realized that he wasn't up to the job? That must've been an awful moment when it came.

I genuinely believe he doesn't know how to deal with expectation and the levels of it at United overwhelmed him. At us he could get away with tempering expectation and we were always at our best with the pressure off.

What? even if they'd murdered one of yours!

You might be better taking up croquet with your attitude.

Anybody?

Temptation to break Godwin's Law, rising...

That moment never came. In many ways, rightly so, because you shouldn't ever throw in the towel. But for Moyes, the revelation should have been "why isn't it working and what do I have to change?" rather than "why are my players crap and what lie should I tell to the media in this post-match press conference?"
