Moyes sacked by United

If even half of that us true Moyes may actually get some sympathy. Disgusting, really.
It's as much his failing as the players' though. The best managers inspire faith and loyalty from their squad. I'm not surprised his own players were laughing at him off the back of his media interactions alone. I'm not sure I ever read a single quote from him that didn't make it seem like he was managing some plucky mid-table battlers, rather than the reigning champions. He tied the noose around his own neck when he started moaning about the squad he'd been left by Ferguson.

I appreciate I am going completely against the grain here, but I for one am sorry his tenure at Old Trafford has ended in the way it has. I think it reflects very accurately on the owners of the club, regardless of whether Moyes was up for the job or not (that is a different discussion).

The whole episode has been a disaster for all concerned from the start to end.

I think from the moment he was engaged in discussions with United, either through SAF or officially with the club he has (i) been very poorly advised (ii) he has completely misjudged what he was being offered, (iii) what he was expected to do, and (iv) the amount of support he would receive from the owners of Manchester United.

With the Glazers in charge finding the replacement they want may prove more difficult than anyone believes.

Fixed for you

He'll never manage a big club again.

Failure has no correlation to success, only the (in)ability to learn from failure.

Table one year ago:
1. Ferguson (retired)
2. Mancini (sacked)
3. Benitez (contract expired)
4. Wenger
5. Villas Boas (sacked)
6. Moyes (sacked)
7. Rodgers
...
18. Martinez

Table today:
1. Rodgers
2. Mourinho (sacked at RM)
3. Pellegrini
4. Wenger
5. Martinez (relegated)
6. Sherwood (to be sacked)
7. Giggs (interim)

Let's be clear--I'm not predicting some huge success for Moyes in the future, but I think your comment is a bit overreaching/overreactive.

My point was he will never be picked to permanently manage one of the biggest clubs in the world again. I stand by that assertion.

He failed on the largest stage with his first 'big' club. Mourinho is bullet proof. Mancini won a league title. Giggs is interim, Sherwood is never going to end up managing one of the big clubs. It doesn't matter whether he could be successful, it matters that no global club will give him the chance unless they fall mightily.

Can you imagine Bayern, Real, Chelsea, or Barca going in for Moyes? Ever?

Also, I was making a lighthearted joke about how Everton will be top of the league shortly, and we would never bring back a manager 'proven' to be incapable at that level. That in 5-10 years someone will say: Could you imagine Bayern, Real, Chelsea, Everton, or Barca going in for X? Ever?
