Moyes watch @ home

He got a great send off after his last game as manager, but he then put in a low ball bid for Baines and belittled the club for not accepting it

That's when it turned for most people

Personally, once he got sacked as United manager the boil was lanced for me, but others still bare a grudge

Very much this.

When he was at Everton he did the best he could for us. At United of course he had to do the same. He was undoubtedly under pressure to show that he could handle being a United manager and playing the media is part of that. Do you really think he holds ill will to Everton? Since then he's said nothing but good things about us.

Interesting to see the respect he is held in within the game amongst other coaches especially in Europe. His achievements at Everton have been reevaluated against the gross underachievement Mattinez is currently managing with a better squad.

I still like the man, I still think he's a good manager, and most importantly I don't think the fans ever truly lost hope he was taking us forward during his time here. That doesn't mean he should ever come back, I think we need some new ideas, but I can't understand people holding huge grudges against him wishing his failure at other clubs.

Nail on the head ! Anyone got his actual quotes after 10 years of being Everton manager ?

‘I definitely do. But I also know that if I was the Everton manager and Sir Alex had come asking for Baines and Fellaini, I would have found it very difficult to keep them.

'I always felt the right thing to do was what was right for the players.

‘All we can do is our job here. Roberto is in a new job and I am sure he will get to understand how Everton work. I know exactly how Everton work. I signed every player at Everton.

‘I respect Everton greatly and I don’t want to do anything that would in turn affect them.

‘Of course, taking their players would affect them but I am certainly only doing what I have to do in my job.’

Say all the nice things you like... As long as he doesn't comeback

It's a big job at Newcastle but it's a poison job and could damage his reputation more and the newcastle fans like sexy football, they wouldbt give moyes a chane, He needs to wait for a better option. Brendon Rodgers would suit the Newcastle job.

Y'know, if he'd just put in a bid that was appropriate for Baines, it would all have been fine (the animosity towards Moyes I mean, not the losing of Baines). If he genuinely had respect for the club, why sully it within days of leaving?

I agree. But to answer your question:

1) I guess it's not clear if it's all down to Moyes, or was it Woodward or the Utd hierarchy conducting bid sizes and low-balling?

2) It if was Moyes, then I guess he thought it didn't matter - it's the past, he'd 'moved on' and he thought he didn't need our mutual goodwill if he's in a 6 yr Man Utd contract as manager

3) If he did that then it confirms the great lesson in life - be wary of placing too high expectations of others, who inevitably disappoint you. Never meet your heroes etc. I met mine, Jimmy White...very underwhelmed by him. Stephen Hendry ('the enemy') though, couldn't have been nicer in person

But yeah, I agree the whole thing left a bitter taste in the mouth after the last few of years of his reign which were pretty good and the send-off we gave

I have to say once he left Everton he became irrelevant, I was mildly annoyed about the Baines bid but he was the manager of a rival club so I expected him to do his best for them. If we get a good manager from another club I expect him to have no loyalty to his former club, I want him fully committed to Everton.
Personally I think he could do a job at Newcastle, they need a bit of discipline.
