MOYES, YOU ARE OUT OF ORDER

You could argue the converse though Dave. As despite the fact that given the choice we'd not want to lose either player, both going would provide the manager with a hefty war chest to build his own side at Goodison, if they both stay, then his budget will no doubt be the usual pittance & so he'll find it hard to make any significant change.

If one went (Fellaini) he'd have the money he needed right there, because his task (and he's stated it) is not to revolutionise things but to get our existing players capable of adapting to different styles of play in games, and that would be his major input. He's no need to bring more than three changes to the first team and bring in a couple more squad fillers.

But you're assuming that he asked them to make a £12m bid. More likely he's said I want baines, he's worth £20m, and then his boss has said, 'fine, we'll take it from here.'
All speculation obviously but why assume the worst?!

Well, I understand the principle of starting a bidding process lower than what you know you'll spend. But to start it at such a (to use Moyes own word) 'ridiculous' level is the insult he knew it would be when his CEO put it on the table. You cant finesse this point away. There's no mitigating argument for Moyes on this matter. None. And that's beside the point that he's been asked by the club who just finished (or not quite finished as it turns out!) paying him one of the biggest wages in PL (and therefore global-wide) football management to stay away from Baines. This cant be dressed up - he's acting the **** and we all know it.

The idea that this was done without Moyes instruction is about as believable as 'I'm waiting to see where we finish before signing a new deal'.

This bid was thrown in to stop Baines from signing a contract. Moyes knew we'd reject it. It was done for the attention of the press. Simply an attempt to unsettle the player so that they can drag this out over the summer and nick him on the cheap.

It totally throws our plans into chaos, plans that Moyes professed to be working on after the season ended. In reality he was just hanging around the place trying to suss out which staff and players he could poach.

Would Spurs (for example) have allowed the next UTD manager to run their affairs for even 5 minutes?

Spot on. Imagine if Mark Hughes had done that when still at City...there'd have been unanimity on what a **** he was...and rightly so.

For me it's even worse than that given that Moyes has just finished an 11 year association with us and left with applause ringing in his ears...applause he barely deserved after running that contract down and denying us compensation.

It's a kick in the plums...but some are determined to give him a free pass.

Unbelievable. Not even HK would have gotten away with that years ago...a real legendary figure. How standards have dropped when we allow a feller like Moyes to walk all over us and accept it.

We all knew that Martinez was top of the list to replace Moyes but the process took about a month all the same.

Moyes became UTD manager hours after some bookies got wind of Fergies retirement. He knew about it and no mistake.

we're not accepting it though Dave, expect Kenwright to go to war over this !

If Martinez was a strong manager he could come out and say Baines simply isnt for sale, end of story. I think we know deep down that Martinez isnt a strong manager though.

oh ffs

anybody think Baines might just be happy playing in the city he was born and grew up in ?,two young kids, wife, around his family and friends, not short of a bob or two at this stage.has great rapport with the fans and seemingly with the goodison staff.last week I got the impression he was looking forward to the new challenge Martinez is bringing, and the ambition to win things with Everton,he's playing for his country so it's not like he's feeling the need to go so a supposed bigger club to improve his international chances.
I would have thought if he wanted the move he would and could have pushed it last season, but he seemed perfectly happy with his lot, wouldn't be so sure he'd want to go as strange as it sounds.
