I think that’s going to be the overarching POV, ultimately. The dust hasn’t settled on Brands’s departure yet, so are we seeing his players coming in to play under a coach that wasn’t keen? Or are these Benitez picks that may ACTUALLY signal a more positive approach?

I’m eternally an optimist, which I know is bizarre for an Evertonian pushing 40, so I’m hoping it’s the latter. I’m also an Evertonian pushing 40 so every fibre of my being knows it’s probably the former and we’ll still be a pile of crap come the end of the season.

Still, though. I’ll continue to dream…

We’ve had such an odd few years of winning while looking crap and losing while (in parts) looking decent that - understandably - encouraging signs don’t cut it with people anymore.

The consensus will be, however young these new lads are, that they need to come in and make an instant impact. Heavy for any young player.

As stated earlier, though, I’m inexplicably an optimist and so I have a feeling they’ll be boss.

Great point with the freedom to bomb on point.. hopefully when he is given his chance he is given licence to play to his strenghts

Quick glance at the Everton forum grandoldteam though, has posters in the thread started in the past hour saying `the kid has been ill advised` `what`s he thinking of joining this circus` etc., including a resident hater davek who describes NP as `a sub in an ale house league` (this in addition to his infhestation on their Walter Smith tribute thread).
