Fair enough. For me james tavernier, 94 year old Seamus Coleman, jonjoe kenny, Ben Godfrey and mason holgate are not a great collection of right backs and yet they’ve all been preferred to him at different times. I find that concerning, but maybe you’re right and he’s just been extraordinarily unlucky.

Rangers decided to go with their captain, talisman and insane full back goalscorer...however when he played Patterson was loved by their fans.

He joined us and wasnt dropped in the deep end as a young player from a 'foreign' league. When fit he started.

The only manager who hasnt started him when fit is Dyche. Who is playing Michael Keane and 442.

Get clear of danger and i hope we see alot more from the boy...as we all do.

I assume he’s including at rangers and it’s pretty obviously a valid point. He struggled to break in at rangers and he’s struggled to break in here, at some point you do have to consider that it might not be a mad coincidence.
Nah, Rangers have always been awful at bringing through young players tbh. It’s why a lot of them either leave early or don’t make it. They don’t take the risk and would rather buy in players than develop them.

That’s a very positive way of looking at it, which is fine. Regardless of what you think of dyche, he is the manager so what he thinks is quite important. What he thinks is seemingly that Patterson is the 4th (at best) option to play at right back. If you don’t think that’s an issue then fine, but I’m fairly confident Patterson himself will think it is.

If Patterson isnt on at half time then clearly the issue is Dyche.

Is there any chance some of his fee is appearence based?
I was wondering the same about Coady too.

Yeah he had some poor games but at the start of the season, there was some solidity to the Myko, Coady, Tarkowski, Patterson defence, and I am puzzled why Coady and Patterson are being left out tbh. Neither are worse than the players replacing them, both in fact have looked much better than them earlier in the season and both are actual specialists in their position.

Insane choices, but in Patterson’s case, I think it’s simply because he’s young and less experienced. I get the impression that Dyche values experience over everything else.

Dyche clearly doesn’t rate him. I don’t really think Lampard or Benitez did either. He’s not done anything on the pitch to demand a place.

Lampard got him in the team and hes started 11 times this season. Pre injury he looked above average to me.

Dyche seems totally clueless in his team selections and recent tactics.

Think Patterson was poor when he came on against Fulham. Also I think Dyche wanted a more physical player against Ayew.. wouldn't read too much into it

Patterson is pretty inexperienced in general and especially when it comes to fighting a relegation battle

It could be pretty harmful for the player and Dyche if he were to be used and make a mistake that lost a game in the current situation

Dyche is playing it very safe

If we do survive it'll be interesting to see what happens with Nathan in the summer
