I think you're attempting to deflect your own odd defensiveness when I made a comment about this forum being more negative than Elon Musk's Twitter

Everton are my English team

They have been for a long time as they've always had a Scottish connection with various players down the years

I don't think you could call my comments particularly biased in comparison to some of the claptrap we've seen posted on this thread or across the forum in general

I'd say I've been pretty level headed, realistic and diplomatic about Patterson and his abilities

Something that can't be said for about half a dozen of the people who've commented on here

Most of the negativity comes from certain posters who are of the Irish/Celtic persuasion.

They dont seem to fancy Duncan Ferguson much either :)

Dyche is trying percentage football mate which I think is pragmatic/needed in a relegation fight.

He knows we are terrible in final third so he's pushing the midfield higher/support in numbers to compensate.

He wants defenders then to primarily defend - and I think Patterson isn't there yet. He's ghosted past pretty easily.

I can understand the idea of why he went Godfrey an Holgate who on their game are better at holding their space - but they've been so bad you have to give Patterson a go now.
This is spot on.

I’d have given Holgate game time ahead of Godfrey initially tbh as I do thinks he knows the basics of the role much better than Godfrey who just looks lost. Holgate came in cold and looked awful, red card meant he won’t be near it again now.

Have to give Patterson a go now, I don’t think he will be any worse than those two in their current form and he does look much more dangerous than them both going forward. He needs protection though, I’d rather coady next to him than Keane.

Well, no.

My question was pretty simple and one I've been meaning to ask;

Noticed you signed up after we signed Patterson, and with that name.

Your posts are almost exclusively about Patterson. In fact, from a quick skim I don't think you've ever post in another player thread.

You also seem to proactively criticise Coleman/Holgate too.

Just curious - why is that mate? What's the big interest in Patterson? Always surprised when fans seem to be fans of players, rather than clubs.

Oh, and Twitter. I'll say a player was crap on here. I wouldn't Tweet him it in response to them tweeting a well wishing message. Big difference.

What is defensive about that? What have I got to be defensive about?

My curiosity was correct as you've now confirmed. You signed up here because of Nathan Patterson. You've post a lot in his thread, and only his thread from all the players we have. You seem to come across as pretty defensive of him.

You've now admitted you have an invested interest in a footballer because of his nationality.

That explains it.

Well, it doesn't. I wouldn't be arsed about an English player, playing for Dundee or whatever but each to their own.

As for Elon Musk's Twitter mate, I'm on that too. @GrandOldTeam - I tweet about Patterson sometimes. Here you go, print them out for your wall.

;)

Be class if we got Gilmour in too lol
Think that ship has sailed though and not a priority position either
Tidy player though
I think he's a solid player but he's the type that needs certain kinds of players to suit him that's why I think he struggled at Norwich and I think if garner continues to adapt to the league he would basically be playing a Similar position as Gilmour canceling each other out and as you know we have so many other pressing needs squad wise

yea good point
Garner also looks a tidy player tbf
Great when we get one right

It's weird and something I really struggle to understand, but than again I don't want to.

We stamped down on it a few times in this thread, but there's also the other side of it where one or two are over enthusiastic.

It's weird. I'd suggest people would do well to ignore his former club, his nationality and just let the 21 year old kid find his feet. But then those people are thankfully very much in the minority - the absolute loons.

Yeah if Godfrey wasn't on his arse for form I'd still be saying him over Patterson in this run in but he's shot.

What actually explains it is that this thread was allowed to spiral into a sea of anti-Patterson vitriol for about a year without any action taken to try and avoid it

With some pretty xenophobic comments being made about Patterson specifically and the Scots in general by a small number of people

So naturally I and some other Scots (some of wholm no doubt support Everton for similar reasons, Scottish players down the years etc) have felt a need to stand up for him

The Twitter comment also stems from that. I agree with you point however that Pattersons personal Twitter account is less likely to receive criticism

Holgate is a headless chicken and Godfrey has been awful since covid, his main attribute was his pace and to say he has lost a yard of pace would be very kind to him. Patterson Is by no means ideal, but in the absence of Coleman, he is the best option we have.

Well, that's not true now is it?

Exhibit 1. Exhibit 2. Exhibit 3.

Holgate was the Players’ Player of the Season and Young Player of the Year in 2019/20.

It's a real shame he hasn't kicked on - perhaps a big part of that is we've 'Evertoned him'.

If he went to Burnley or someone a year or so ago we'd probably have fans asking why we let him go.

I agree Patterson should play now, but I also agree Dyche was right to try Godfrey and Holgate. Both I suspect are better defenders right now.

Form counts and Godfrey and Holgate at right back were awful, so lets hope Patterson can come in and do a job. He'll offer more going forward, but I do have a niggling doubt over his ability to defend/his positional sense in particular.

As I said earlier, I think Dyche has put our entire team higher up to try and find goals and so he needs his defenders to defend.

We need more of an attacking midfielder, someone who can go past a player and score goals, someone who can burst forward and put defenders on the backfoot.

Really? Saw some over the top comments about him being useless and it being shot down by most but xenophobic comments?

Exhibit 1. Exhibit 2. Exhibit 3.

It went on for long enough before that and anyone reading this that was on the thread before then knows perfectly well that it did

Anyway I'm sure you've got better things to do than this in your role as moderator

The season will soon be over and I'll be gone for a few months till it's back so you can relax then...

Perhaps we'll sell Patterson as you've obviously got Holdgate down as better as him anway so what's the point in keeping him eh? :whip:

Sectarianism and religious bigotry (which is ridiculous and has no place in a modern football club) is not the same as Xenophobia by the way.
And Patterson is far better than Holgate

Holgate*

I didn't say Holgate is better.

Try reading my post, instead of quickly seeing red and assuming something is there that isn't. You seem to do that a fair bit.

Next you'll be calling me xenophobic. (Maybe look that term up).
