2023/24 Nathan Patterson

Nathan Patterson didn't "look right" to me yesterday. Don't know if he likes a drink or not but at times during the game he looked like someone who had been burning the candle at both ends. I thought he may have picked up a knock, to be honest, and even asked as much in the match thread.

If there were concerns over his fitness I doubt he would have played at all. Dyche wouldn’t tolerate that sort of behaviour/lack of professionalism.

What a tiring life it must be to hate someone so passionately even when he's done nothing wrong.

Hope you lot find peace. x

The agenda is in full flow isn’t it mate, just so tiresome to see.

If I was a young player I would avoid everton like the plague, with this fantastic level of “support” we give them….

There are so many more, bigger problems with the squad and team than Patterson, but he’s the whipping boy for Saturday?!?

Imagine what they would have said if he scored the chance he had - a little more composure and to back himself defensively and offensively, and there is a proper player there - not sure we will get to see that players in a royal blue shirt due to the football experts on here.

getting mad abuse here, he didnt have a great game but kinell fulham only created about two chances the whole game, he wasnt that bad.

he does need to work on his final ball though

What is up with all of you giving this young lad dogs abuse? He is young and learning his craft in a struggling team. This is the same young lad that kept Mitoma quiet in the away game at Brighton. Jesus wept, I had to watch Ray Atteveld, Terry Darracott, and John McLaughlin playing right back in my younger days……cut him some slack!

LOL

When Rafael Benitez gives Steven Gerard £16m of our cash for a seemingly obviously limited right back who's only played 13 games in a poor quality league - and he turns out to be as bad as feared - then surely we've every right to be negative on the whole thing?

The only solution for me is to get him out of loan to the championship for a season or two and hope he can improve.

Not completely true there are a number of problems in the team which all lead us down the path of relegation battle again and he’s part of the issue along with maupay not doing his job and scoring goals, Iwobi being busy doing nothing, Onana showing up for a first half cameo and probably not be seen for 2/3 games, Keane starting CB and everyone’s hearts being in there mouth waiting for something to go wrong, mykolenko being trash, dele on a ridiculous deal that our hands are tied not to play him and trigger it, signing injured players while potentially throwing crucial points away when we need players NOW, the bench resembling a championship side the owners not going flat out and bringing a ST in list is endless but they all add to the problem it’s not his fault we don’t have a solid first choice although last season Coleman did well for most of it when he played but we’ve needed his replacement for years and Patterson wasn’t and isn’t the answer.

Godfrey and Holgate are terrible footballers.

Godfrey might work at RB but might be worth persisting with Patterson over him. Holgate is a liability, inconsistent, rash and likes to leave the boot in and get caught doing it. Branthwaite should be blooded this season for sure.
Exactly this.

I can't believe there are people that think Godfrey should play serious minutes for us this season. Sure, he can run around fast at times and look like he's trying hard but he makes Ross Barkley's football IQ seem like peak Xavi's

Patterson is just a bit tactically thick defensively, and a great attacker. Is it really more complicated than that?

Could you not say that for every player? If maupay placed his shot 2 inches past Leno he wouldn't have been getting dogs abuse for the past 3 days.
you could. The difference I suppose is that Patterson is a RB that got himself into the position, Maupay is a striker so should do a lot better with those chances. Outside of his shocking finishing Maupay was decent, better than any game last season. Likewise, overall thought Patterson wasn't as bad as is being suggesteed here.
That being said I do think it's far more likely Patterson will become a good RB than Maupay a good striker though

The only thing I'd use Godfrey for is man marking a key player all over the pitch. 'Just go hunting and flattening Godders' could work. Anything that involves maintaining a position like CB doesn't work. Norwich fans did warn us about this tbf

Seen it all before with him and Onana.

Poor games happen, especially for 21 year old full backs playing behind a (frequently) out of position Garner (who is a CM) and a absolute oaf and liability Keane.

Some of his games last season were exceptional. For example, the 80mins he dominated Mitoma there were still posters saying that he played poorly.

He'll be a very good Right Back. That seems clear and obvious. He just needs to be comfortable with the tactics (seemed to have been told to move into a RCB role when defending) and not worrying about others around him.

Onana has had similar treatment since the game. Yet he was by far our best player (as shown on the video of his game posted in his thread). Anonymous they say...for a midfield masterclass by the clear motm.

Its like an agenda not to support and praise young players and say theyre "a waste of money". Suddenly though one is now worth more than double what we paid...and the other has been hampered with injuries and no doubt will be a £30-40mil right back if he can develop and stay fit.

Some really poor views on both players the past few days.

….’a great attacker’? Not sure I’ve seen any attacking dimension in his play to come to that conclusion.

I was full of hope for him but I admit to being very disappointed. There are no excuses, he need to improve all aspects of his game.

I thought he'd be a lot better on the ball than he is, but he's had enough decent games overall for it to not be a crisis if he has a stinker.
