Well I think this lad is an exciting prospect with clear technical ability and evidently is good at one on one defending, so there.

There are issues with his positioning, but a football truism is that defenders learn this through experience and the good guidance of professionals alongside them. Unlike other positions, especially those who operate in the attacking third, defenders don't tend to mature until much later for this reason. With age and experience he will learn the art of defensive positioning, that the first few yards are in your head, and so on. He would really benefit from playing alongside a stable and competent right centre half who has experience at the top level (a Johny Evans, say) and NOT Michael effing Keane.

It really saddens me to see people opt for the easy option - heavy criticism - rather than thinking through the wider lens. Then again this is the internet, so not sure what I was expecting.

You`re also forgetting about the very obvious agenda, of a couple of bigots too mate.

If he`d signed from any other club, bar the RS, he wouldn`t even be on their radar.

You cant learn a player on the job in the PL - it's too costly, as it has been already.

He should a) never have been bought in the first place, or b) sent out on loan to a Championship club to get his error-ridden game sorted out.

Spot on mate. New players have to learn on the job in the PL - it's too costly to buy a seasoned PL performer.

I'm sure Championship teams will be fine putting up with these errors as winning football matches doesn't matter to them.

He really was, defensively he was a shambles and going forward he offered nothing, having a player who isn't a winger in front of him didn't help but in that first half Willian absolutely terrorised him.
he wasn't great and yer Willian deffo got the better of him, but I don't think they created a single chance in the first half whilst willian was on?

Whereas you had doucoure who genuinely couldn't pass the ball the two yards.

A striker who missed 4 great chances.

He was poor but I don't think he was the worst.

We have to remember he's 21.

He's shown in isolated games he can defend, and attack - it's on Everton to develop him and bring some consistency.
Deffo this.

As you say, he's shown he can defend, so he just needs coaching on positioning etc because that's what let's him down, when and when not to get tight etc.

He needs to put the hours in on his crossing though
