2023/24 Nathan Patterson

The lad will likely have a career trajectory of a loan out next season to the championship (say Swansea), then a deal to someone like Hull before ending up at Hearts and Cowdenbeath via possibly a stint or two in maybe Greece or Sweden.

Ah yes. Let’s play our most creative midfielder even further out of position.

Also anyone got any ideas why we don’t score goals?
The same members of the brains trust advocating moving Garner from central to right wing to right back will be the same names moaning about how he has no fixed position in a year or two.

The new Tom Davies.

Yes, Garner has proved to be capable at tight back, but he's not a right back and shouldn't play there unless it's a dire emergency.

Patterson getting dragged out of position to cover two wandering centre backs (one of whom had been dragged out of position because Young had been drawn to the ball) doesn't constitute an emergency.

What doesn’t add up a settled side not staring relegation in the face is a much better place for a lad not ready for premier league minutes who needs to hit the ground running. Hickey for instance although he’s got plenty of first team experience under his belt Rico Lewis, Levi colwill, Evan Ferguson, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliot all younger or same age yes they’re all better but they wouldn’t of got the minutes they have if they wasn’t in settled teams and probably would of went on loan as some of them have. Let this sink in last 2 seasons he’s been first choice RB and is learning on the job no thanks.

A young player should have more chance of getting games at a weaker team.

Because the players ahead of him arent as good as those in the best teams.

See Branthwaite.

He’s an attack minded player. Therefore he must be run out and replaced by a player who won’t cross the halfway line.

Yes see branthwaite, deemed good enough for a top Dutch side champions league experience comes back and on the bench. Prime example of a player we should be giving a chance to went to a foreign country out his comfort zone had a good loan spell next step first team football for us, if he is good enough to be playing and doesn’t start games I think we lose him in January/ next summer.

And think that’s only true if the teams got no money/cover in that position hence why Patterson is playing.

So, Garner is a capable RB but we shouldn't play him there because he wasn't recruited for RB, but instead we should keep playing a player recruited for RB who is incapable there?

Maybe Patterson should be a professional and master the rudiments of his job first before attempting to do anyone else's and get dragged out of position (AGAIN) to lose us all thee points (AGAIN).

This lad cost us a lot of points last season by going walk about and he's kicked off this season doing it.

We cant afford to keep him in the team, in case we hadn;t noticed we are hot favourites for the drop with a couple of other teams. If we were a nailed on mid-table team then you could make a case conceivably to leave him in as a starter this season to finally see if he can sort himself out. But we aren't, so Dyche needs to show some leadership and judgement and leave him out and start Garner in a back four.

Get some fresh air mate . Pattersons here to stay as first choice RB.

I much preferred you chatting nonsense in the stadium thread.

But go on, I'll play along.

How many points did Patterson ALONE cost us last season through his ineptitude.

Share links to goals for illustrative purposes.

Cheers. ;)

As for Garner it's not the case we must not play him out of position, it's more of we can't have him as our default one player for multiple roles.

Today's game is a squad game, we don't need an Alan Harper Swiss army knife. His development in his preferred position shouldn't be hampered by us plugging leaks elsewhere.

Last season he lost us the points in these games:

Chelsea home, Leeds away, Wolves home, Forest home, Brentford away, City home.

Clear errors leading to goals conceded.

This season he's kicked it off again with another walk about.

Most people recognise this issue and aren't persuaded that he'll shake off that general dimwittedness on the pitch. But you continue to ignore it if you like in the belief that he's a slow learner.

IMO he's got a handful of matches before Coleman returns to prove he has half a football brain to justify his continued inclusion in our squad, nevermind the first 11.

So Garner, the player completely asleep on Saturday for the Fulham goal, should be our right-back? Funny how he isn’t brought up with his woeful lack of awareness and tracking attackers.
Exactly. He's another young player (Like Patterson) who needs games in a steady role to learn that role properly.

Moving pieces around the board doesn't help anyone in the long term.

The true price you pay for young players isn't monetary, it's points. (however unlike Daves assertions, it's very rarely the fault of a single player that leads to a goal.)
