No pleasing some people.

Not at all. The first time I see Patterson actually put in a decent defensive performance I'll be the first on here to sing his praises. I wish he was better. I want him to succeed as that can only be good for us. If not he's just an expensive liability.

Sure you will. Or you will palm it off as a lucky match, a one off, poor from the opposition……

What did you think of him in the Brighton game when we won 5:1?

I think he has massive potential, but the problem is that the PL is ruthless if you have any gaps in your game and other teams will exploit it.

He needs game time for experience but that comes with risks inherent to his defending weaknesses.
I wonder if shipping him off to PSV or similar for 1/2 a season for some game time at that level would be a good idea.
It's looking like Branthwaites experience there could be the making of him.

Genuine question what makes you say the bit in bold? As it stands it is only Steven Gerard, Rafael Benitez and a few Scottish supporters that have ever seen it....

You mean like how teams are very clearly targeting Young?

I think he looks dangerous going forward. Great crossing ability and the ability to get into dangerous areas.

He does look very shaky defensively and gives the ball away far too much though.
He is only a kid though at 21, far too early for me to write him off completely.

Mate that just doesn't make sense....you think he has massive potential but yet admit he is very shakey defensively? The lad is a defender. Or supposed to be. He is championship standard at best in my book but would be delighted to be proven wrong.

Because he is a very good football player. If you actually watch him play without your boring bias, you’ll see that he is a quick thinking footballer. He isn’t the type of player who will punt the ball up the park at the first sign of pressure. He looks to play out whenever possible and join in with the attack.
