Playing staff recruitment and strategic development of the academy etc I assume. An owner choosing the manager of their club is pretty commonplace.
That's not what a DOF is meant to be doing. A DOF is supposed to be the continuity in an age where managers don't last long. You can't keep on choosing managers with diametrically opposed playing styles and back them with players who won't suit the next one. It's absolute insanity to do so.

The comparisons to Silva are spot on.

He was out of his depth here.. and so will Nuno be. It's so obvious and it depresses me that the club just can't see it.

Of course they’re going to be gutted to see him go. He’s overseen the most successful era of the club most of them have EVER seen.

Which got them to more or less the same place we are currently at. With a hell of a backing from the owners to boot.

There’s absolutely no evidence to say that he can perform beyond that level. Which we as a club, need to be looking for. Otherwise, honestly, what’s the point?
The point is getting the hungry type of manager who wants to take that next step with us. The Pochettino Spurs hired from Southampton. The Klopp/Tuchel Dortmund hired from Mainz.

The remit of a DoF will vary from club to club but they should have a say in the managerial recruitment, I agree. But we don't know that MB hasn't had his say in this process. Perhaps he wanted someone else but for whatever reason, it wasn't doable. We're in a predicament and need a manager, so what do you do? Keep waiting and waiting until all summer recruitment and preparation is further condensed and compromised? Risky either way you do it

Maybe this isn't the whole story. Maybe Nuno is the 1st of many and we are going to appoint several managers, so it pleases everyone and no one is to blame.

Nuno, Dunc, Benitez, Conte and Potter. The perfect mix of expectation expanding, hope shattering appointments, with a cocktail of PL experience, European knowledge, tactical nous, big name gravitas and player developing coaching prowess. A history of Trophy winning, innovative new ideas, mixed with dogmatic stubbornness to traditional beliefs. An ego maniacal brand of wild card craziness, with dour, low energy thoughtfulness. Defensive solidity, attacking fluidity, Evertonian values and owner of local property.

It might just work.

If it doesn't, we'll go bankrupt paying them all off.

Managers aren't the problem or the solution at Everton. The players are the problem and replacing them with new ones is the solution.

Any manager who starts overhauling this useless squad will get my support. I will not be turning my attention away from these players when they are the problem. Managers will continue to be utterly irrelevant while we continue to let these players fail to put in an acceptable level of effort and commitment week in week out.

Nothing written on here or other sites matters a damn - whether you're for or against the appointment. Supporter reaction at the ground is the only input which might affect the Board's thinking ... and, frankly, I wonder if they're too bothered about that either.
