For the last time fella, almost everyone I know who don't want Benitez, don't want him for footballing reasons. I couldn't care less who he used to manage and what he said in the past about us.

Yes there are some fans who don't want him because of the RS stuff, but I bet they are in the minority. It's disingenuous to suggest otherwise.

I don't want Nuno either but I would 100% have him over Benitez.

90% of Blues dont want him because of the small club jibe / RS worship of the bloke.

Im not saying the football side isn't also a factor but the fact people say "I'll take Nuno/Potter" but "can not accept Benitez" when even factoring in recent poorvseasons for Benitez in terms of success he has still won no less than the other pair which makes me believe our fanbase just wont give him a chance.

The fans chased off Alladyce who did a better job than both Silva and Carlo with worse players and cost us millions in the process in terms of hiring and firing.

Why are you certain he would be accepted?
I'm not certain of that. It's a factor to throw into the decision making process, his RS past. But there are other factors, his A list pedigree being one. Benitez would be perfect for that gang of wastrels at FF who've been leading us a merry dance now for five years. Somebody tough needs to get hold of that group and sort it out, he could definitely do that.

It'd be nearly as toxic under Nuno. We're screwed regardless. No matter what manager comes in we'd need a miraculous run of results in the first three months for the fans to not turn on him, because the realistic candidates are all varying degrees of bad, with some outright terrible.
Why do you suggest that mate?

There's not rating a manager/his style.

Then there's Benitez.

Toxicity levels would not be the same.

There's no patience left for unproven managers from smaller clubs anymore. We're done with it. We were given a glimmer of hope with Ancelotti and the idea of going back is intolerable.

If Nuno didn't get off to a stellar start, his job would be on the line within 3-6 months. Same with Howe, Potter etc. Benitez would just get similar abuse but for different reasons.

We are, 100%, screwed regardless. All we can do is hire the manager that has the best chance of getting through those first six months and has the ability to develop a project at the higher echelons of the sport.

Of those on the list, Benitez ticks more boxes than most.

Again, not saying it wouldn't be toxic with Nuno. Just don't believe for one second it would be as bad as with Benitez. It would be toxic before we even kicked a ball with him.

He has a meeting later where its believed they are going to be ironing out the smaller details in the contract. Everton want to announce a new manager by Tuesday next week at the latest.
lol Talk to you on Tuesday then pal

For me it’s not even just about him managing them across the park. It’s the fact he’s another dour defensive first manager and his tactics with our current squad will be just as bad as Carlos were last season.
Yes that's my main reason too my point is there will be loads of anger and infighting if he gets it, the season is going to be grim

?

I raised above - Wolves went through a patch of about 1 win in 6 this season and Nuno said they need to go back to basics - since then they have kicked it up a notch - thats the sign of a good manager not our current fall into the abyss.

Its like you can never process that a person can change an opinion on something mate certainly in football over 2-3 years lol

Its why people get married and say I do forever then years later get divorced!

Again, not saying it wouldn't be toxic with Nuno. Just don't believe for one second it would be as bad as with Benitez. It would be toxic before we even kicked a ball with him.

I agree. I just think an experienced manager dealing with higher immediate toxicity would be better than a poor manager dealing with slightly lower levels of it.

I think any manager we get will be gone inside two years, so it barely matters, as long as we don't tank the clubs rep by bringing in Eddie Howe or going with Duncan.

Rafael is another dinosaur manager on the wane, a "name" and a "cv" but you need more than that to succeed here.

What I will say is Benitez has the experience to deal with that though, or at least has a better chance of doing so than most.

If he can ride out the initial storm, get results, that'll be the end of it. That's what Evertonians are craving more than anything else - success, a plan for success, some competency.
It doesn't matter what he does for a significant portion he will always be their legend. Always. And that's the issue. That's why it will be divisive.
