Can't understand all the vitriol for Mendes, yes yes an agent and a Lizzard but aren't all agents basically the same ? If Mendes tries to push one of his players towards us, can't we as a club, just say no thanks ?
Be honest was anyone calling Raiola when Lukaku signed from Chelsea to Everton. If Mendes can get us better players, who are we to argue, all agent are loathsome.

The problem with Nuno is that he's reported to only really trust Mendes clients. He apparently vetoed Wolves trying to sign a few players and instead opt for some from Mendes stable who turned out gash.

We already have too many cooks in the kitchen to be throwing in Nuno/Mendes imo.

90% of Blues dont want him because of the small club jibe / RS worship of the bloke.

Im not saying the football side isn't also a factor but the fact people say "I'll take Nuno/Potter" but "can not accept Benitez" when even factoring in recent poorvseasons for Benitez in terms of success he has still won no less than the other pair which makes me believe our fanbase just wont give him a chance.

The fans chased off Alladyce who did a better job than both Silva and Carlo with worse players and cost us millions in the process in terms of hiring and firing.
Are you a sado-masochist mate? I'M sure I've seen you on here bigging up Dyche, Benitez and now Allardyce! Good job that (judging by your username) you are too young to have really seen Joe Kinnear, Dave Bassett or Bobby Gould, or you'd be having their faces tattooed across your chest like Jed from Alan Partridge!

I couldn't stand to watch stuff like that. Nuno's football, despite being flawed, is miles above those.

No, I just wanted to know why you were so certain. And you are relying wholly on what has gone on before. Well, what if I can list you a whole host of managers who have had successful tenures at rival clubs, what would you say then?

There will no doubt be a small handful, probably at clubs with rivalries that are not as big as ours, probably clubs coming from a better position than what we are in now and coming from a club with a different background to Liverpool.

Listen I am coming at this purely from a business stand point, nothing else. You do not [Poor language removed] your customer base and when they have an issue with something you are doing you do not just ignore them. It's basic stuff.

I am 100% certain that it would not work out well, just as I would be if it was Moyes or Martinez who got the job too. Managers who's cards are marked (rightly or wrongly) before they even took the job on. You do not overcome that.

I agree. I just think an experienced manager dealing with higher immediate toxicity would be better than a poor manager dealing with slightly lower levels of it.

I think any manager we get will be gone inside two years, so it barely matters, as long as we don't tank the clubs rep by bringing in Eddie Howe or going with Duncan.

Fair point that, at least he’s dealt with toxicity before when at Chelsea so won’t feel the pressure as much.

We are a different kettle of fish us when we are upset, not many managers can deal with it, Martinez lost all his hair in about a week after a few defeats at home and Marco Silva was literally crying on the touch line. It’s a tough job once you’ve lost the fan base.

Gattuso has just lost 2 jobs in the space of 4 days because of this. So it’s not as easy as you believe

For the last time fella, almost everyone I know who doesn't want Benitez, don't want him for footballing reasons. I couldn't care less who he used to manage and what he said in the past about us.

Yes there are some fans who don't want him because of the RS stuff, but I bet they are in the minority. It's disingenuous to suggest otherwise.

I don't want Nuno either but I would 100% have him over Benitez.
Why would you have Nuno over Rafael, from a football point of view?

hes 47 should be hungry and really possitive full of energy. Last season he seemed the total opposite. They had a few injuries and he couldn’t get a tune out of them, seemed to change players and formations every week. The stats were shocking, like the worst team in the league for pressing, for miles run.

His philosophy of trying to win games in the last 20mins, who know if that’s true. But when you see that don’t score in 4 out 5 first half’s in the last 3 seasons, maybe that’s true. Can you see goodison putting with that. While he won’t get the stick early doors that Rafael would get, but it would be long before the game turn on him.

I don’t want either of them, but I would take Rafael of Nuno

Originally wasn’t too fussed on the appointment. At this point I’m close to past caring. Having a look at Benitez’s CV though, I don’t think he’s the right appointment. In no way do I think he’s a bad coach but look at his stints at clubs post RS. It isn’t as good as I originally thought.

Inter - Inherited a world class team that won the treble the season before and took them backwards. Was sacked sitting 7th in Seria A.

Chelsea - Inherited a world class team and won the Europa league and secured a 3rd place finish.

Napoli - inherited a team that finished 2nd the season prior. Littered with great players but couldn’t mount a title challenge. Finished 3rd and 5th and flopped in the CL big time both seasons he was there. Did pick up some cup wins though.

R.Madrid - lasted 6 months.

Newcastle - Adored by the fans yes but when he took over they were only 1 point away from safety with with 10 to play. Couldn’t save them but won the championship a season later and established them mid table in the Prem but nothing Bruce hasn’t achieved (similar points totals both seasons).

Not sure what he did in China but don’t think that really matters. Unsure what the board are seeing unless he’s swooning them with past trophy’s won and his love for the city. Yes he’s won some silverware but I’m not convinced.

Can I point this out with Newcastle. Howe get absolutely vilified on here for taking Bournemouth down, which should have been Villa due to a goal line technology error, but Benitez took a massive club like Newcastle down. That is far far worse than Howe going down with Bourneouth even if they had deserved to be relegated.

It is crazy that some who are saying give Benitez a chance are the same ones as saying definately not Howe as he has a relegation on his CV. Hypocrisy of the highest order.

I dont want Benitez and I dont want Howe before the usual suspects pipe up.......

If he'd started here, left for Liverpool acrimoniously, then tried to come back, it'd be different - 100% would be against him, a la Nick Barmby.

There's no doubt there will be a massive pushback to Benitez from the fans, no denying it, and he'd be pressured out if results are terrible within six months.

But if results are good, the idea that fans would boo him and be holding protests is laughable.

Good results in this instance would be top 4 and making a push for both cups whilst playing good football. This will not be happening straight away.

The thing is I don't even think it would get that far. For results to be good you need time. Could he turn us around eventually, yeah maybe, will he get that chance? Nah.

Why do you suggest that mate?
Because it will be whoever it is. The fan base is so divided that whoever is picked, a lot of people will made it known that they were right all along.

Appointing any manager in this age of social media is a huge gamble. Someone has to come in, start well and keep it going or the plotters will start. It happened with Carlo Ancelotti, don't kid yourself it would be fine with someone that Wolves didn't want to keep.

Fiorentina just kicked out Gattuso before one game because he wanted them to pay over the odds (in their opinion) for his agent, Mendez's clients.

it's not basic in my view. Cos the whole fanbase is not against this move. Alot of people realise we don't have a number of great options, and if there is a top grade manger on our doorstep desperate for the job then he should be looked at carefully. It might not work out, but I reckon he's our best bet.

He has a meeting later where its believed they are going to be ironing out the smaller details

Like whether or not to have a wafer thin mint?

But Nuno doesn't want Dunc, he wants his own entourage.

Exactly Nuno is a non starter. He wants to bring in between 8-10 new backroom staff.

Rafael operates on 3 of his own personal staff and is more than willing to work with the current setup.

He has an assistant manager, First team Coach and a Fitness coach. That's it.

At every club he's been at, he takes on former players of the clubs as staff.
