Sad times, what’s the world, and Everton Football Club, coming to - when it appears the two choices for the job would appear to be Benitez or Santos (and his mate Mendes!) and we are going to be relieved when it is Santos!
Pass the bleach!

I’m convinced that sections of you lot actually live in the past. To want Benitez because he’s won some trophies literally 2 footballing generations ago whilst totally ignoring the failure he’s been recently is absolutely inexplicable.

Also we shouldn’t be hiring people hanging of the coattails of successes for bigger clubs (15 years ago). We should be putting our own plans in place and putting a new fresh spin on things like other clubs who were around our stature have been doing in the league. We keep doing stuff like this and we’ll just get left behind in the dust.

Rafael is a disgrace, the weekend of the small club jibe a couple of kids blue and red got knifed over football , that's on him , he wasn't bothered of the fallout of his idiotic comments, he was classless then hes classless now.

Not fussed about what he said about us years and years ago. Don't care what anyone says about us unless they are involved at Everton. For me, if we hire him, we are just matching what he said about us being a small club by hiring a past it manager whose level is newcastle which he struggled with.

It's like signing a 34 year old Rooney and saying it's a huge signing because he won everything with another team years earlier.

Like players, managers lose their touch and become out dated. The difference with Carlo, is that he is still considered at the top which is why he is now at Real.

I'm not bitter about him being at Liverpool and disparaging us. Couldn't care less. And I don't think most actually care about that. I care that he is crap.

This. Close thread.

As I have said loads of times though the people who are not against the move are irrelevant in this. Not everybody wanted Martinez sacked (me for example) but the anger from some fans was so high that his position was untenable. Benitez would be in the exact same boat but would not even get a honeymoon period to impress. It will be toxic from the get go.

The lack of understanding that angry people make lots of noise and cause lots of havoc is weirdly being underestimated by some people. It is a thing whether you agree with it or not.

Your outlook whilst absolutely commendable is not based in reality at all.
You didn’t won’t Martinez sacked lol
What did you see in the 2nd & 3rd seasons. And some his horrendous buys, to think he deserved another season.

Says it all, I suppose you want Dunc to get the job

and I ask again, on what basis do you know the scale of the vote against Benitez? What are you basing it on, a feeling?

Vote? What vote?

What am I basing it on? Seriously? Things I see every day, things I see on here, things I see from supporters who have been going for decades. Things I have seen at other clubs.

People are fighting with each other on here already, anyone who is all for him is a kopite, anyone who is against him is bitter etc etc. He hasn't even signed for us at this point! It is right in front of you, you are massively overthinking this.

The only way he survives is if we end up in another long term lockdown with no fans in the ground, that would mitigate a lot of the issues (or hide them anyway).

….I can only guess that the strategy is not to have any more managerial turmoil whilst the ground is being developed. Moshiri wants the team nice and safe and if that means European qualification and decent runs in the cup, then all the better.

He won’t want risk, he won’t be wanting to go through this process every 18months. I think he’ll be wary of a bright young progressive type who wants to build a new team.

This is a very good point, one that I think, sadly, is very accurate.

Maybe Moshiri wants to play it safe with a manager who won't rock the boat but is experienced enough to keep the team competitive.

Benitez good Valencia and Liverpool teams played attractive and winning Football. Both teams were not in good places when he joined them either. But he has had limited succcess since with Madrid, Inter, Chelsea. At Newcastle, it is difficult to play attractive Football with those players in my view. I think he is a good coach, maybe not the first choice I would pick, but a good coach and I can see why he is being considered.

It will be interesting to see what happens here after these fan protests.

I've been against the Big Dunc shouts for ages now but at this point we might as well give it a go. We need to be totally united as a club and fanbase going into next season and the closest we'll get to that is with Big Dunc, just give him a years contract and be done with it.

I'm not a Benitez fan, but you're drawing an unfair equivalence there.

Benitez joined Newcastle 2 months before they were relegated. Howe had been at Bournemouth for 8 years. It was entirely Howe's team that failed.
Some failure that taking Bournemouth, Jesus Bournemouth!!!, with relegation to non-league threatened, to three promotions, into the top flight for the first time ever then keeping them there for a few years... even getting them into he top half of the league. It's one of the biggest coaching achievements in England this century.

Of course cycles come to an end, (Klopp had Dortmund near the bottom in his final year), some of the transfer business wasn't great and their two best forwards gave up and tried to leave the club... so it wasn't perfect.

But failed??? There will be a statue of him built there before he turns 50.

Almost 20 years ago mind, but does anyone remember his Valencia team tearing the RS apart in the Champions League. Think it finished 2-0 but should have been 10.

Aimar, Baraja and Vicente ran the show playing boss footy. Weird the way none of his teams have ever played footy like that since, the closest maybe when he was at the RS when he had Gerrard and Torres and almost won the league. Even that was 12 years ago, feel like we need an up and coming Benitez to come in not the actual Benitez.

Seriously not got time for that one. But it more than proves my point anyway, the angry majority always wins out.

Why on earth would I want Ferguson?

And what do you mean by "says it all"? I don't think you have a point really do you?

Wouldn’t be surprised if they coat the pill by having Dunc and Tim alongside
Rafael.

Disgusting comment, mindless idiots being cowardly enough to use weapons to hurt others is on them, not on what some manager said in the heat of a game of football
