If it is to be Benitez, then its hard to see how we can survive the sort of awful performances we have seen last season and/or a slump in form and a run of successive defeats.
It's hard to see how that achieves the aim of stability, when he will be under more pressure than any Everton manager before or after.
That said though, the team and club will gain nothing with a toxic atmosphere.
Things may well turn toxic, but it is not an absolute that he cannot under any circumstances come in a do a decent enough job, for a couple of years.
He should be judged on performances and results, in a manner reasonable to all other managers. We all know not to expect miracles here based on the huge problems he and his predecessors have inherited.
He will have to address his previous comments to Evertonians and apologise for them. If he does so, and then approaches the job with vigour and commitment, and is seen to be doing, or at least trying to do the right things, then I won't have an issue.
