Take that 40 applications story with a pinch of salt as it come from the Liverpool FC Echo.

I suppose even if that many people did apply, it doesn’t mean the club didn’t set their sights on other managers at other clubs and put the feelers out there via agents and what not.

Again it’s all conjecture and hearsay, I’m doing it too. I just find it hard to believe we have solely set out to get Benitez like many perceive it to be, it just doesn’t make sense, for me he’s been chosen as he’s the best out of what is available to them (the board) based on experience which is what I believe they’re looking for.

We aren’t the only ones who are struggling with candidates for managerial positions currently and that’s a bit telling.

There is no sense to it.

Every manager we hire has a different style than the last and we swerve from one formation to another and begin again.

This is just another random appointment which makes no sense...the only one which has was Ancelotti.

The only reason I would be behind people wanting to chase Benitez out is if someone like Conte wants the job but the board are ignoring him.

But that's not remotely likely - its hysteria and fans not seeing the woods from the trees.

My thinking was the club is ultimately a business and I'm thinking the opposite to most. They will want it to be the top news story of the day. Spend today tweeting about Pickford and England and then announce it Wednesday or Thursday when Everton can be seen as centre stage. They kept Doucoure Allan and James locked in the Titanic for a week and staggered their announcements to maximise publicity and clicks. Probably the same here albeit the reception won't quite be the same

I wouldn’t rule that out completely because Everton are staggeringly bad at reading the room, but it’s a really, really awful idea. I mean trying to maximise clicks when a bloke is literally having threats left outside his house because you can’t be arsed doing an announcement is a whole new level of stupidity.
