It's not the only thing, its a big part of it though.

A crowd can flip a managers fortunes in seconds rightly or wrongly. The people telling you this have experienced it.
I watched the Silva, Koeman and Martinez eras. Before right now I've never felt that the problem was the crowd because there were a ton of things on the field that they screwed up.

Is this like a fans trying to make themselves feel important thing? The manager failed because of us?

It's fine, keep telling yourselves we're special, one day it might be true again.

I'm not being horrible mate, but why would it be wrong for fans to think we are special or unique?

I don't think that's what's at play here though. What's at play is there is a clear and quite unique culture that exists at Everton. Liverpool is a unique place and so is the club. For an American, think the New York of England. People even thrive or crumble under that gaze.

I dont think thats us saying we are special, but there has to be an acknowledgement of the basis if the clubs outlook. However much you or I might want them too, the supporters are also not going to drastically shift their thinking.

TBF there were lids aplenty saying what a terrible appointment Koeman would be, before he was appointed.
I'm sure there were, but was it because they thought he'd wilt when getting booed or because he was a tactical disaster who made most of his career on feeding off what was left for him and failing when he made it his own? I remember the second one.

The fans can think whatever, we need to man in charge of hiring a manager to not do it.

what games at goodison did you witness this mate???

oh yeah, totally forgot...sorry

Sixth sense. References. General football gossip.

Like, one of the most successful coaches in the modern game is probably Brian Kidd. Coached for Fergie at United, and Pep at City, so clearly has that talent. He left United to manage Blackburn. Blackburn ffs. Fergie knew he wouldnt handle it, and he didnt.

It's more than just Everton too. Lots of organisations have distinctive cultures. Working against that tends to go against people.

It's more just about saying though, he will not get the time and forgiveness at Everton as he would at other places. That could well be a criticism of Everton, but any good recruiter has to factor in the concrete reality.

Potter may thrive. He may interview well, but it shouldn't be discarded.

Of course but it's still an important factor when hiring someone. I wouldn't hire someone in my job regardless of their talent if I didn't think they could hack it.
I just think it is really hard to tell that in an interview and would prefer we go on more solid metrics is all.

It would just be nice to get some who can buy into the club who wants to be here, gives us an identify to push us on. We have been such a disjointed club in the last five years in fact since Martinez's first season it's been a mess...
