New Everton Stadium

Yes, I think Hampden Park showed the way with the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

A temporary raised platform, covering the first x rows of seats should allow for a running track to fit inside the ground.

Hampden had the advantage of having more space around the pitch than we'd want, but if we're going for a 60,000 seater stadium, then even if we lost the bottom third of all four stands seats with the raised surface, it'd still have 40,000 seats. That's plenty for the Commonwealth Games - Hampden had 44,000 and Manchester's had 41,000.

Take it out when the games are done and everybody's happy.

Hampden park is hated by football fans though isn't it ?

That awesome Bordeaux stadium, pretty sure they can cut it in half and have boxing, gymnastics or basketball in a mini arena. That's what we should be aiming for - forget the athletics, but have many of the other events inside the multi-purpose arena.

As has been said countless times, a new Everton stadium can be the centerpiece of the CWG without being the athletics venue. Too often the main stadium has been synonymous with athletics, maybe it's time to change that.

I do hope the corners are filled in, can't be doing with Ewood park type ground that would be horrible.

Stands close to the pitch is a must

They will have to be, on the waterfront it will be far too windy to leave anythig open, besides that also be a waste of space. I hear that Stoke are going to fill those corners in soon.

Must have missed the athletics part...stand alone football stadium is the way i read it.

I'm just going on what I've heard myself. The one shred of ITK info I've ever been told (albeit second hand) about Everton, by someone working on the project/proposal, is that it'll be designed with the CG in mind, but we're still trying to make it "4-sided". At the moment, imo, it seems likely it'd be used in the case of any successful games bid. Seems to fit the small amount of information we currently have on what the ground could end up looking like.

@Toffeeslam, I agree, but a 50-60k seater with open corners would look a bit odd, so surely we'll be alright there.

The commonwealth games talk worries me. It's not for another 9 years.

So what would we do before then? Play in a stadium with a running track?

Even after the games, it took man city a full season to convert theirs into a proper football stadium.

The only feasible way would be to do what they did at Hamden Park.

If Dan Meiss really wants to tap into the history of the club etc, the fans have to be as close to the pitch as possible.

Thanks for posting that, interesting. It does suggest then our stadium would have to be 60000 to make up for the loss in seats if we were to do that.

I wonder if the stands would be more rounded or at least concaved rather than straight? Mind you City's isn't.

What would happen to these pubs and restaurants the 13 days we're not playing

We must not underestimate the work that is going into the north of the city. Where we will be, is going to become a hub of activity, the city center will effectively be shifting Northwards and it is likely will be a transport hub where it is the first part if the city that many first time travellers will see. There is far more to be announced than simply a stadium going there, though the announcements will surely be seperate.
