New Everton Stadium

This is how the City Of Manchester Stadium looked during the games:

com-stadium-comm-games-config.jpg

This was possible because the games came first. In our case, the games will come after, therefore this approach is not feasible.

It is impossible to have a running track and retractable seating and keep the proximity desired for seating; running tracks and football pitches are just incompatible.

I maintain that if the council want the CG, build a modest 15k athletics complex at Stonebridge Cross. Our new gaff can host the opening ceremony and some other events.

Just had a look on Google maps to compare Hampden with the Emirates for a way of understanding the raised platform. It looks like the same method at the Emirates would see just the top tier or so above the track to accomodate it, whereas Hampden was easier due to its bigger footprint and oval shape. I cannot see how a traditional 'tight' stadium is compatiable in any way with a raised olympic standard track. Surely if there is to be an athletics use the moving lower tier is the only feasible option. I'd presume this would be expensive so there would have to be a cost justifcation for that type of solution.

It would be interesting to know what brief Meis is working to. If there is to be a recurring use of a world class athletics facility then EFC have a choice to make. If LCC are not pursuing an athletics legacy it's surely better for all to agree on @The Cowboy suggestion above and build a cheap/temporary solution elsewhere (SC or Wavertree).

Not to forget the added (albeit minor) factor of the 110m hurdles stretch down one side. It's not even as straightforward as a basic oval shape, it's bigger than that.

That shows how complicated it will be.

We have a better example to give an idea of what is required. The Etihad when it hosted the CG didn't have a lower tier and one of the ends was open so basically we would be talking about raising the floor 5/6m at least which is a lot and would need a temporary stand at one end that could be rolled back. Looking at the Lucas Oil stadium that could be possible if the window is large enough for the stand to go through, however with that and raising the floor it would be cheaper to build a temporary 40k athletics stadium somewhere else.

I think when they say about using our stadium for the games it would be in the context of hosting the opening and closing ceremony's plus whatever sports they can use it for inbetween.

Sorry didn't see you had already posted this!! Makes mine a duplicate...

If we were to follow the example of the Etihad the pitch as well as one end would have to be moved backwards to accomodate the track. I don't believe they would have employed this configuration had there been a request for continued use.

The below pictures are of the other end at the time of the games. It just seems a non starter without a retractable lower tier like the Stde de France and the one in Singapore posted earlier.

One idea could be to built one End a bit crap with the Commonwealth Games in mind. Then afterwards knock it down and build a proper stand.

We'd hope to some kind of expansion plan in mind anyway, so it could tie in like that.

Everything is possible, Meis already built a stadium where the roof moves along a track. Nothing stopping one end doing this also. But I tend to agree a temporary stand and then replace after 2026 would probably be cheaper.

I would like to put it on record though if we can afford the stadium ourselves that we shouldn't try and make something work for the CG also, as we are bound to have compromises that we'll be stuck with for a hundred years or more. If we can't then we should do a man city and let them host the games before converting to football use, as long as we can get the dock that way.

I agree, but I have a feeling that there may be things the council will help us along with and smooth over if we agree to the CG part

I suspect any dual usage will compromise the stadium design, no matter how it's handled. Any involvement with the CG and we can kiss goodbye to a unique stadium with great atmosphere.

Happy 'kin Friday.

We should have a couple of retractable sections by the corner flags which allow access to the curved track sections running BENEATH the end stands. Monaco GP stylee.

Imagine how ace it would be as a spectator seeing the runners disappear into the void, then emerge seconds later in a different order. It could revolutionise middle distance running.

Solved it lads, get Meis on the blower, pronto.

I think that line has to be at the heart of anything they decide to do for any games.

If it doesn't result in a compromise then yes that's fine, knock down a temp stand, rebuild, whatever, it just can't affect the long term quality afterwards.

Posted way back on this thread, and I guess it has been posted many a time since.

Well worth a watch shows the flexibility of stadiums -moving stands, incorporating the roof, sunken pitches- and how to create a 'destination hub' with multiple use venues.

If not simply skip to 30mins to see the concept behind this (which is getting built incidentally)
