I know, I just use it as an example we can all relate to. You're spot on as always Mick. Totally agree about getting the seating as tight as regulations allow in various parts.

I've always liked reading Tom Hughes analysis on this. I know in the past he's been a proponent of various types of seating to accomodate peoples differing tastes/needs. Anyway, page 37 onwards in the link talks about C values etc

Maybe, maybe not.

If we plan for expansion but the stadium and location doesn't prove to be the springboard to great things as we hope then we just don't expand. No harm done. Although having said that I couldn't tell you the difference in cost between building for expansion, and not.

It would be good to have Tom's input on the new stadium, mind you he might be doing so on here already under a username. I know it's been his life ambition to rebuild Goodison, so perhaps he still hasn't given up hope.

I wonder how many complete new builds have been expanded in the past 50 years. Tends to only be piecemeal stadia that get expanded.

No good, an athletics track would ruin the stadium as the stands would be nowhere near the pitch.

There's not going to be a running track. It's going to be a purpose-built football stadium borrowed for the Commonwealth Games, not a purpose-built athletics stadium borrowed for football like West Ham's.

That was built with the purpose of a running track, then after the games to be transformed into a stadium for football.

It only had three sides for the games.

There's not going to be a running track. It's going to be a purpose-built football stadium borrowed for the Commonwealth Games, not a purpose-built athletics stadium borrowed for football like West Ham's.

You can't borrow a football stadium, it's not big enough for an athletics track. You have to build a stadium capable of having a track, hence the stands having to be away from the pitch, unless you hold athletics first and then modify the stadium after, like City of Manchester Stadium.
