New Everton Stadium

Built this one for AUD268 million (Roughly GBP130 million)...30,500 seats

Or, this one with a roof for AUD460 million (GBP230 million)...56,000 seats in an Oval format

I think a roof would be worth the extra cost (assuming we had the money...) but don't expect it'd be the difference between a postponement and a game going ahead. Didn't we cancel a game because of conditions outside the ground last season?

The MCG is an outstanding ground for cricket, but would be an awful idea for football. Even the Etihad is too much of a bowl.

Has to be a rectangle.

In saying that, I'll believe it when the turnstiles open.

Oh, exactly Elong. I was only pointing out relative costs and showing Etihad as 'roofed' example. As a ground for the World Game, forget it. I've watched a few matches & as a spectacle, it's rubbish. Passes bouncing left & right on an uneven surface is a joke.
You bring up a good point though. AAMI Park (the first photo) is shared with Rugby League & I'm not sure how the surface fares because of this. Someone mentioned earlier about ground share with Rugby, well perhaps someone who watches more games than me at AAMI Park should comment?

Aami Parks surface is brillant probably our best surface wise for football

I think people need to be realistic. Everton are potless. Doesn't matter that the TV income keeps growing as so too do associated costs, chief of which is wages.

We do not have the income to spend significantly on transfers nor will we be building a top class stadium.

The city now has the Echo Arena and the new Exhibition Hall. Don't see any need now for a stadium that has a roof, particularly in WHP.

Kings Dock, especially at that time, ticked all the boxes. A facility the city needed in a premium location. That decision was pivotal for Everton FC and one from which we have arguably not recovered.

For Australian football grounds, nothing comes close to Suncorp.

But that's exactly th reason we need to build a new stadium. If we don't we will end up going backwards because we won't be able to fund the wage bill of the quality of the players we have.

We have a 21 year old on 70k per week and a 20 year old on 60k per week. How much will they need to be on in 3 years time for us to keep them? How much will a top 20 year old expect in 3 years time?

There isn't any other option but to build the ground now even if it means using academy players to phase out our older ones and using the extra TV money. Luckily needing academy and therefore using them is also our biggest strength.

There are other options though, they just have to stop standing in a corner with their fingers in their ears.

This is why any new stadium has to have a business case that works and stands up against other options such as redevelopment or increased borrowing for a better location. It's too important a decision to simply present the present shareholding with their optimum pay-out.

If they can prove a new stadium at WHP is the best way forward for the Club then I don't think any Evertonian will argue but they would be negligent not to explore all possibilities.

If it all goes ahead as part of the redevelopment with the introduction of social housing, community leisure facilities and retail I'd imagine that would be a fairly attractive offer for the club, as WHP becomes a community hub. Because of who is involved and the nature of the project I'm far more optimistic about this ground move.

Are you far more optimistic about the quality of the stadium this time, compared to the cheap piece of crap proposed last time?
