New Everton Stadium

I think the problem with the BU when it formed was that it was a mish-mash of aims and objectives to begin with. I admire their adoption of policies at the outset to be inclusive, but they failed to convey what they were about sufficiently in my view.
I believed their raison d'etre was to raise awareness of the Board's inability to take Everton forward, and inability to find someone able to do so, and to try to help facilitate that if at all possible.
I went to some of the meetings, as I'd just returned from living in Asia, and there were some very eloquent and astute Blues, who truly wanted what was best for the club. Unfortunately, at that time we were doing alright on the pitch (although the footy itself wasn't great from memory), and too many people in the wider fanbase thought they were being disruptive. It wasn't about Moyes and the team, it was about ownership, but there were also a few Millie Tants in their ranks who were anti-Moyes and latched their aims onto the BU, causing further alienation within the fanbase. Putty in the hands of the club's spin doctors, able to peddle an anti-BU rhetoric that they maintain to this day.

The club fractured the fanbase during the Kirkby debacle, and those differences remain to this day. The advent of t'interweb has seen people lose the art of debate, and too quickly online discussions degenerate. ToffeeWeb is a really good "bad" example of that during the Kirkby period, and it remains to this day (was never a GOT reader then, sorry).
Brilliant. Absolutely spot on. Clearly evident in the responses I am getting from above, dare I say that some 'yes' voters still can't see how they were lied to and conned by the Board, Robert ' Goodison won't pass safety certificates' Elstone, Mr ' Propaganda mouthpiece' Stubbs an all....
Anyway. As I say in life sometimes you get what you deserve. And Evertonians are currently enjoying that....

I think a lot of people voted in favour of Kirkby, just because they were scared of the club being left behind the other teams in the premier league, in terms of facilities and earning potential. It's bad enough visiting teams like Manchester United and being Jealous of their stadium, it's unbearable to look at sides in the Championship with better match day facilities. Our stadium was once state of the art.

At the time Kirkby was the only option the club put forward as an actual solution. You can't call it a real vote, there wasn't an option to redevelop Goodison or move to a site inside the city on the voting form

Agree. However there are some that still sprout that Kirby was a world class stadium we missed out on.

For those who know about these things, how long will Goodison (or at least parts of it) last for getting H&S certicates etc? If I remember rightly, there have been a couple of incidents in the last few seasons when bad weather has caused potential concerns on safety. Is there a pressing need for expensive refurbishment, or can it just be continually patched up without too much cost?

I don't remember seeing that image but I remember the GFE paper, I found it is still hosted on Toffeeweb.

Thats similar stuff (drawn up by the same architect). AFAIK there were various plans drawn up (one for re-developing 1 stand, then one for 2 stands, then one for 3 stands etc) The most ambitious and biggest one would include land take on bullens road side but it all looks good without even needing to do that.

The only thing you did mate, was surprise me with a fantastic example of cutting off your nose to spite your face.
now now...

Are you saying that hoping for relegation so as to force the board out is not an example of 'cutting your nose off to spite your face"?
If you re-read it my man you will see I start off that paragraph with "Hate the thought of ever getting relegated".
So no I wouldn't wish it on us.
It was making a point on the slow death we are experiencing as a club/supporter base anyway under this regime.

I don't need to re-read it, the sentence and it's point has been permanently (and disappointingly) seared into my brain.

You say you hate the thought of being relegated but then immediately imply it would be worthwhile if it got rid of the board. If your end goal is to get rid them, then I don't think you can argue that you are not saying relegation would be acceptable (if that goal was achieved). In fact, the argument is pretty much equivalent to saying "I'm not a racist but.." and then following up with a slur.

Anyway, I have absolutely zero interest in continuing this conversation but I'll say one last thing. If you can see positives in being relegated you should probably find something else to spend your time and energy on other than Everton.

No mate. That was a sarcastic pondering obviously lost in transit between my brain and in writing it.
Appreciate your advice. Lets take up that option to zero interest it I say...

That's it. It was desperation.

We're still that desperate except in that time now West Ham and Tottenham are both about to move into new stadiums so they'll be above us in the pecking order and Liverpool are on their way to redeveloping Anfield.

Which as a club puts us mid table without any hope of Europe every season. If the boos have been bad this season then I wonder how the fan base will react to that.
