New Everton Stadium

evening lads, not sure where to post this, but seeing we are stepping into the next gen of EFC, and moving to a new stadium, can something be done about 'grand old team' being our club song?

Im not sure about the history behind the tune, but sounds pretty bloody old tbh. I hope this doesn't offend anyone. Maybe the new stadium will need an upbeat tune to match our upbeat style of football... In terms of club songs replicating on pitch performances, its was bobby martinez all over... slow, boring and bland.

Is it even a possibility? Or will the club song never be changed? Being Australian, I have no one that can answer these questions I have, so again, I'm sorry if I have offended any supporters.
You need to be at GP after a big win and hear how loud GOT is sung. Even though its played over the tannoy , they cut the speakers off just before the line "And if you know your history". It's great mate..

No offence taken but I certainly don't want to change from GOT ....and Z Cars should remain btw for entry onto the pitch. Decades of tradition in both of these.

Fully agree with Rover here !

I just can't imagine Everton without Z Cars and GOT. Whilst there is much to change at Everton and exciting times ahead I do think that these should and will stand the test of time.

No but I see stuff I'm not keen on. One stand seems to be very corporate with normal seating framing the boxes almost. That entire stand will have no atmosphere. I don't have to be in the building to know that I don't like that.

Would be interested to see the ratio of corporate to GA there. This is a 25k stadium so a couple of rows of boxes is going to stand out a helluva lot more than at a 60k ground. Also, if you're going to keep corporate out of one or both of the stands behind the goals (avoid an Emirates) it'll have to go in the East/West stands.

Yeah horses for courses but I'm hoping Meis' research screams at him not to do an Emirates on that front.

Couple of interesting things from this link

"It's not a closed stadium, it's really active at the street level," Meis said.

I can really see aspects of this working at BMD especially if the dock itself is utilised when drained.

The exterior canopy of the stadium is made of a new material called ETFE, which Meis described as a pillowy material that is capable of having LED lighting run through it that would allow the projection of color, images and even video onto the facade of the building.

Not sure how this would go down with the WHS status (and don't particulary care) but given the location this could be sensational.

thanks for your reply mate. Like I said, being Aussie, I have missed alot of the tradition/historic side of EFC. Alot of my Everton education has been online, and ive not spoken to alot of die-hards, seeing they are all in liverpool!

In saying that, I'm under the impression that this new era is going to be alot more commercial. New stadium, new sponsors, new ambition, new/better players, gathering more fans worldwide which I assume will be mostly young supporters. Do you fear Everton will begin to lose that 'historic' feeling around the club? The fanbase in England won't get much bigger, but worldwide EFC fanbase is going to gather alot of new supporters like me, not knowing bugger all about tradition and the history of the club.

I'm not in liverpool, I'm in Frankston

I've noticed that new stadium design is using EFTE, Roma is too, I'm convinced Dan Meis will use this on ours too.

Notable buildings and designs using ETFE as a significant architectural element:
