New Everton Stadium

Jeez mate, getting a tad dramatic there. Surely it’s about getting a World Class Stadium, do you really care that much if the capacity is a bit lower? Would it really be the death knell? Are you more concerned about getting one up on the cult or getting a World Class stadium the envy of the country? This is about us, not them. The Club must have done all their research into the capacity. Do you honestly think that if they’re gonna build a new ground and they could throw an extra few thousand seats at it and would bring more revenue in that they WOULDNT do it?

The top 6 all have or have plans to build 60k plus stadiums. Their growth forecasts demand this as they can see matchday income will remain important in the future especially if the tv money bubble bursts. Why are we going lower? If it’s constraints with the site, then fine as I’d rather have the location than not, but the architect has said no. Is it cost? Could be, and again I could accept this as id rather have a new stadium than not. If, however, it is because we based our design work around assumptions on attendances and future success created by that dementor Robert Elstone then we are making a huge mistake. He would rather he had a full stadium every week than ever win anything ever again. The man doesn’t know the meaning of ambition or a stretch target.

In comparison, City can’t fill their current stadium for most matchdays but are looking to extend it. That’s what owners with vision and ambition do as they know they’ll driver the success which will deliver punters in the future. Everton just want their little parish of fans to be comfortable whilst they watch midtable mediocrity.

I’m all for ambition, We’re not exactly being unambitious. To accuse Elstone and his so called ‘assumptions’ on attendances and future success because it doesn’t add up to yours is a bit silly. To call it a “huge” mistake is over egging somewhat, as is calling it the “death knell”. Again, do you really think that if the Club thought they could throw a few thousand seats more at it and sell them and the extra revenue that would bring in, they wouldn’t do it? The stadium has to be sustainable, to use City as an example is quite ridiculous and is probably the worst example you could give, given their owners unlimited supply of cash. Shall we build a bigger and better World Class training complex as City have done too? Let’s say we built a 50k stadium and filled it every week to the rafters, does that mean that the club are just happy to let ‘their little parish of fans to be comfortable whilst they watch midtable mediocrity’? If that’s the case, I’d be happy to watch midtable mediocrity in such a stadium and atmosphere.

If the tv money bubble bursts having a smaller stadium than the teams we want to compete against will be a death knell to future success. I don’t have to use City, I could use Arsenal, United, Liverpool even, they don’t get full houses for league games, yet they have expanded or are expanding because they know that in the big games the demand for tickets goes up hugely and you can sell numerous hospitality packets off the back of it. We’re already filling out Goodison, if we move to Bramley Moore and find that we’re filling it every week as well it’s not an achievement by Elstone or Meis it just means it’s too small! If we fill it watching an 8th places team, what happens if we become more successful and more people want to watch? The ticket prices go up as demand outstrips supply.

I literally cannot see any benefit to a smaller capacity. It feels shortsighted in the extreme.

55,000 is plenty for now, as long as they design something that can be added to should the need arise.
Goodison is land locked so we can't do a lot there, BMD will have lots of space to expand if we have to.

Using UTD would be a bad example too after their recent history and them being the in the top 3 biggest clubs in the World!! Both Arsenal and Liverpool’s average attendance fall around 1k under capacity, which would suggest the clubs research pre build was probably spot on. I’ve no doubt that fans of both clubs would want bigger, that why decisions like this are left to businessmen and architects and not fans.
You mention Arsenal expanding. They are adding 780 hospitality seats, and they probably built their stadium for about 1/2 the price it’s costing us. As for the RS, I’m literally not bothered what they do, too many on here just want it to be bigger than Analfield like it’s a d&£& swinging contest. I want what’s best for us. And I have absolutely no doubt that the businessmen at the club do too. They do the relevant surveys, know the financial constraints, the planning constraints etc. We could all say we want an 80k capacity. What do we know? We’re fans, and naturally, want bigger and better. But let’s be realistic. But the club are already getting criticism from a large minority for something that is still hypothetical.

You’re basically saying ‘stop comparing us to clubs that have been successful’. We need to plan around the aspiration of us being successful. Sorry but I don’t trust the decision makers at Everton as if they’d have had their way we’d be in a Tesco tin pot in Kirkby. Most of the time they have their own bank balances and egos not the good of the club as their priority. They have pretty much botched the majority of key decisions pretty much since the appointment of Moyes. I don’t know why people are so trusting over
The stadium.

If Moshiri et al can build a low 50s K stadium and seenthe value of their asset rise quicker than if they built a 60k + one at greater expense then there is absolutely nothing on their record as a board that would suggest they wouldn’t go for the easier option.

You say that Arsenal and the RS don’t sell out for games and yet we do.

Capacity..........Average
Arsenal.. 59,867............59,323......

RS .............54,074............53,049

Everton ......39,572............38,797

Arsenal average around 500 under, RS 1000 under, us around 700.

They don’t sell out but we do?

There's no way it should be less than 55k, I always thought it would be around 58k with room to expand from there. Success on the pitch is going to drive numbers higher, the club are aiming to have a team with ambition that will compete for trophies, having a stadium capacity of ~52k is going to be a disaster they'll be forced to fix almost as soon as the thing is built.

How many severely restricted views does the Emirates have ?

Can’t speak for the hell hole but I recently visited the emirates and every seat had a decent view.

At Everton restrictive viewing seats must run into the thousands so we’re doing quite well.

I think Disaster is a bit strong.

I am no expert, not even a little bit, but surely the size of the site, plus the height restrictions due to the WHS status/compromise (that still an issue I think), kinda puts a limit on the actual size of the ground. Unless we have tiny seats, but I bet there is some regulation that says what size a seat must be.

Plus the added cost. Lets see anyrate.

I’m also no expert in this field of cost per extra seats, I’d love a 60k+ stadium, but if someone said we are spending half a billion on a state of the art 50k seater stadium I’d bite their nuts off never mind anything else. Extra capacity to me is a bonus and I’m a believer in Everton’s growth forecast

Didnt Juve build a new ground with a lower capacity than their old place, but now have an ace atmosphere? Not saying we should do that, but the capacity is still only one aspect of how ace a ground is. #wembley #emirates
