New Everton Stadium

It would, as long as the design and materials used are stunning.

I think people would compromise on size if the stadium blew their socks off.

The indications all along from the club and Meis have suggested to me they're not arsed about the capacity wang-waving contest between fans. Rather the emphasis has always been on design (for i) atmosphere and ii) an "iconic" look) and location, with capacity further down the priority list, which I am fully behind them on. The location couldn't be much better and we'll know in the summer what the final designs look like. If they're good, the two most important criteria have been well and truly met, for me, with the now confirmed capacity also more than satisfactory.

If they deliver all of the above and actually build the thing they'll have achieved something I hadn't even considered possible after King's Dock went down the pan.

Not if the ground is built with the extension in mind
That way it would only involve adding in extra tiers on both ends or maybe in corners with no roof
If the stadium is built with the extension in mind then it won’t cost as much to build the extension at a future date

Didn’t explain that very well did I

It just sounds a mess doing it that way mate. Just build the stadium for the capacity you think we should have. If they they think that's 52k and significantly below the likes of West Ham come out and tell us.

Not for me mate.

I think what we're seeing here (if it isn't more smoke and mirrors) is a decision based on planning guidelines and possibly funding issues.

Our hope has to be now that any cost reduction from having to go 10K lower is reflected in quality of facility.

My concern is Meis is on record as stating you can’t build it and then add further capacity down the line.

I don’t see how the extra 10k is possible if that’s the case.
That's probably BS in all fairness. Maybe the addition of a couple thousand more in the event the club are successful on the pitch and need of necessity to exploit that and meet demand.

We will never do the increase, that's just a charade to appease the fans over the budget capacity.

How much to build a 52k v 62k would impact hugely on the profit Moshiri wants to make on us.

After losing 100's of millions already because of his own bad decision making he is now making sure he is limiting his losses.

The appointment of Brands was his first step and now this smaller scale stadium.

It’s fine though.

I don’t get why it needs to be more than that to start with.
That's all it will ever be.

Meis said ages ago that whatever the final design capacity is, that is all it ever will be due to the site of the build..

I'm sure he will cover this up by saying the capacity increase will come with converting to safe standing.. Which I don't think is possible either.
