New Everton Stadium

Interesting, thanks for that.

PH have had meetings though with some of the parties who were interested in acquiring Everton in recent months.

I've heard this through the grapevine, but when people hear Peel they automatically assume Ports and or the waters development. As you know a Peel Holdings are an absolute monster of a company who own land virtually everywhere in the region. The levels of discussions and what discussions were held will be anyone's guess.

An example; I posted on here a good few years ago that the Everton were in discussions with peel over Canada or huskisson dock and all tenants had been issued eviction notices, surveyors were seen on site on numerous occasions. Now 90% of that was true, apart from the Everton bit, it was to do with the developments of MU warehouses. But that came from a former director of peel ports

Thanks. I know Rangers use that description about Ibrox (as well as The Big House). Maybe Conn took it from there?

I'm not overly fond of it, tbh. It's a description that makes a virtue out of a necessity, as it were.

I asked David Conn, he's not sure he was the originator, although he's been asked this before.

I can't find any earlier references.

I agree it's not a term I'm particularly fond of either.

Sure, I suspect discussions were at a very early stage, part of the business planning in the event of acquisition.

I'm aware one party were enquiring specifically about the docks.

It's one of those terms local journalists use to ingratiate themselves, and one welcomed by a club looking to deflect away from its inadequacy in solving the stadium issue - mind you, during the DK fiasco the club were all but calling it the Old Wreck.

Tactically making a virtue out of a huge deficiency.....

When did GP start to be referred to as 'The old Lady''?

Seems like a recent phenomenon to me. Last 10 years or so.

No idea mate, it was never used or even heard of in the 50's,60's,70's,80's or 90's as far as I'm aware. I don't like it myself, sounds too Italian........

I was going to post my ideas on a dock side stadium, which I might do if we do well next week. But after yesterday all that enthusiasm has gone. However, how about this: I cant see any new stadium being ready within the next 3 seasons, so in the meantime, if we want to gauge how many people are likely to come through the turnstiles we need to increase the capacity of Goodison as quickly and as cheaply as possible. So why not build an extension at the back of the Park End, possibly doubling its size. If its built on some sort of steel framework, like Villas Trinity Road stand which goes over the road, we can keep the majority of the car park. Forget about corporate boxes, just get season ticket holders and walk ups in. For the roof build two towers at either side of the Park End (Like floodlight towers) to hold the new roof up. I'd also suggest if there was a likelihood of new stadium not being ready within say 5 years, a further tower can be built between the Main Stand and the church which can then be used to support the Main Stand roof so the 2 posts causing the obstructed views can be taken out. Costs I've no doubt will rule this out though. Just my thoughts.

It would be funny if it went up next to the old Littlewoods building.......Edge lane is a good shout though as it's easy to get to and from......

...I've mentioned that land before. I cut through it on my way into the office and always think it's a great 'space' with immediate rail and motorway links and no residential housing. Ideal, although I can see the attraction of a riverside arena.

When everyone else had moved to new ones,or revamped, so we called ours The Old Lady, had to do something, with being left behind. like.
