New Everton Stadium

William Collins playing fields for me. It's yards away from one of only 5 train stations that are linked to the national, Ormskirk, Kirkby, Northern and Wirral lines. The whole area is destitute..... If we build in WHP, I'll fume at the lack of foresight. Much as I'm laughing at the RS now for building in a ghetto :p
Closer to the city I see (looking at google maps).

I would be amazed if Everton planned to build a stadium with more than 50,000 standard seats. Combined with 5-7,000 executive seats I would expect a total capacity of 55,000.

They may build contingencies into the design to allow for a higher capacity in the future, but as I say I would not expect them to plan beyond 55,000 in the immediate future.

Hopefull Mr Moshiri cuts through all this lack of ambition and actually builds something that entails meaningful change for the club.

None of this Robert Elstone saying 'Everton cannot be compared with other clubs' then him saying its a 'game changer' then saying it isn't; flip flopping all over the place.

If Everton are going to be taken seriously as a big club we need a big ground.

Not one that puts us behind our rivals.

The lack of ambition at EFC in infrastructure terms is a disease.

The new pit extension only takes them to 54,000 and they've supposedly got a waiting list for season tickets that's larger than the population of Belgium.

We've not got a waiting list, and the thought that we could magic up another 20k+ match goers overnight, without massively discounting ticket prices to a level way cheaper than our peers is absolutely bonkers

A 55k capacity stadium with a design that allows for further expansion should it ever been deemed necessary is more than big enough.

Sounds about right to me. More important for me is the quality of the stadium and design than the capacity.

No it isn't.

It would put us as a 'mid-ling' club.

The rules of stadia-onimics.

Get as many fans in as possible.

The reason is that ticket prices cannot increase any more due to public/political pressure q.v. Liverpool.

That means capacity is the key.

Build a stadium that is too small and we will not be able to make the most of it economically. Short or long term.

Agree with this. I'm sure we will build a stadium with a reasonable increase, with the view to increase later if we need to. That would be the most sensible thing to do. I think 50-55,000 initially would be sensible and the potential for 60,000 if we achieve success.

Liverpool’s population at 466,415

But that doesn't include areas like Bootle, Huyton etc, if people want to be pedantic and say that's not the city then more fool them. The Government get their stats of agencies, those agencies play Liverpool down and overexaggerate Manchester so more funding based on population can be diverted their way keeping us in our place because we have the gaul to stand up to them. We were second city of the Empire, not some backwater. Half of the World's trade went through our port.

It would be pointless building a 60-65,000 seater stadium straight away because we clearly wouldn't fill it. The only thing that would have us filling 65,000 seats would be consistent success which we haven't had for 30+ years. The FA Cup in 95 was a one off.

People do underestimate our fanbase as we have the potential to fill 50-55,000 in the right circumstances but talk of 65,000 in the next few years is deluded.

The rule of "stadia-onimics" as you put it is to build a stadium which can be filled each week (load) and maximises revenues per seat (yield).

At a build cost of £6000 per seat there is no point in over extending capacity if it can only be filled by reducing prices to the extent that the yield generates a negative cash return.
