New Everton Stadium

This feels *over* to me.

I think the next announcement on this is likely to be a delay in the next phase of development, then a change to the hoped for inauguration season, and they'll be the first moves in mothballing it. I know it's nowhere near a precise comparison - but the feeling I have is the one I got when we first heard of problems over the viability for us over the Kings Dock stadium. We're in the foothills of that now IMO.

It's a huge disappointment to fans and will destroy the club's morale (and reputation) for years and years to come.

You couldn't make up a worse case scenario than this if you were a Kopite. It's organisational death we're seeing here.

Kenwright brought these people in 6 years ago and they've been an utter disaster for us. I sincerely hope that when (when not 'if') Moshiri leaves the club in the next 12 months or so that Kenwright is forced out by a huge campaign. Since 1999 he's blighted this football club and should go down in history as one of its infamous characters whose actions have been every bit as destructive for the club as the split in 1892 and the European ban in 1985.

It feels that way because you never actually wanted it in the first place
That's simply not true, but you go ahead and take your frustrations out by saying it if that helps you.

My view always was that this is a stadium scheme and it's Everton: ergo it won get done. Then it was getting done and I was a believer.

What happened is just crazy bad luck. We need to accept that and be prepared for any updates that this is delayed (then shelved). It's disastrous for us a club. I'd only wish this on Kopites, that's how bad the situation is.

It won’t get shelved or delayed, why would we go through the trouble of draining then filling over the dock just for it to go under?

Your whole basis on it is on Usmanov and the naming rights, which he didn’t actually obtain, just the first dibs to bid on them. They are now open season to other sponsors, plus we still don’t know who the investors will be or if they are already in place, that’s where the funding will come from to complete it

They went to that trouble because it was green for go up until the Ukraine business.

The financing of the stadium regarding loans hinged on Usmanov. That's gone now and so went with it the realistic chance of getting this done on time (and more than likely at all).

Maybe it's a face saver that there's no steel structure up yet. That really would have made us a complete laughing stock walking away from that with our tails between our legs.

This is a calamity. I'm just staying we need to face the likelihoood that it's now over and at least begin to deal with it.

If a takeover happened tomorrow there'd be no one more relieved than me, I can tell you.

They steel would/is provided by a UK company though

And no the financing didn’t hinge on Usmanov at all, if it did he’d be the one paying the entire bill which would then have us facing points sanctions for his involvement

It would be very silly, to invest 150 mill and start a build unless you had a watertight contracts on financing for the next phase.

If you were building a house and started the ground work, foundations etc out of your own pocket - your solicitor wouldn't allow you (or would give the advice) to begin site work unless you had finance in place for the next phase or contracts signed for financing. I'm sure these lads have legal teams far more advanced then a high street solicitor.

Bit worrying when the accountant is moshiri tho isn’t it? And he doesn’t seem the person that takes people advice … unless is Kia jorbichan

You don’t know for certain it won’t get delayed or stopped .

personally I think we might just be ok , but none of us have a clue At the minute. this is a slightly worrying time but none of us have a clue on the severity of our problems. It’s all just guessing . Crap things tend to happen to this club through our history so anyone who thinks that this couldn’t fail is an utter loonatic .

Amazing how some in a clickbait world believe what they read. You're just a number to give to advertisers and decide if the writer keeps getting paid for column inches.
That Nick Harris is normally quite good with figures to be fair but he’s probably been nowhere near the headline and has only supplied the figures to the other writer.

Comes down to modern building costs as well. Sunderland built Stadium of Light for about 20 million 25 years ago and it was still bigger than Anfield until the new stand went up and just that stand cost them north of 100 mill.

We missed the boat with the Kings Dock.

KD would have cost us 20m wouldn’t it from memory… makes me want to cry

We've already gone through:
  • Brexit is going to be the end of this
  • Oh Covid is definitely going to be
  • Now Usmanov sanctions will be
The truth is if bombs start hitting the UK that will obviously delay it, if Moshiri dies then that could perhaps end it but with the works already done I still think a funding package could be found.

I agree . but people talking with absolute certainty on either side are talking crap , nobody knows at th minute either way

Not just that but would have been a gamechanger for the club. This was before Abramavich and Mansour and there wasn't that much money in the league (hence 20 mill being a lot then) so the gap to us and Liverpool wasn't that big 20 years ago and they were stuck with Anfield. The Kings Dock would have really propelled the club into the prime location of the city and made us ripe for investment.
