New Everton Stadium

Sure, just saying that I cannot see the council assisting in a waterfront commonwealth stadium. If we want the river,, we have to do it alone.
Absolutely but thats the point I was making we no longer have to go cap in hand to them,if they are thinking ahead to the games fair enough but that shouldnt have any bearing on where or how we build our stadium

I knew you were going to say that.

However, as pleased as I am that they have broken the mould I think it may create a number of problems for them next season.
They are going to have a lot of expectation on their shoulders next season, not least with their foray into the CL.
They are going to have to increase their squad and the players they sign will be probably on higher wages than existing players which may upset the pay scale.

Now that the glory of winning is settling down I think Leicester face a lot of challenges this summer and next season.

The clubs that usually have this level of success have an infrastructure built up over years to cope.

Leicester = Blackburn.

Winning the league will be their undoing.

Is that 100% certain that were financially independent for a stadium?

I honestly couldnt say but we are not as dependant on the council,it seems to me the JA is trying to kill two birds with one stone, to get the site in Croxteth used and to piggy back the games on the stadium we build great for the council in the short term a disaster for us long term

I'll bow to your greater knowledge here mate, but, 4 years in and despite 'conversations' there isn't anything tangible happening with it.

It surely needs a 'spark' to act as the catalyst for the start of the project? Someone needs to commit in order for that to happen.

The fact that Peel said the other day that there was nothing they could say on the issue, and not, that it's simply not going to happen as it doesn't fit with their entire project, says to me that they've far from closed the door on it.

We'll see how it pans out, but for me it's gone from being a fanciful pipedream to a possibility now.

Thats exactly it, one developer or project could kick the entire thing off; originally this was supposed to be the Shanghai Tower (now called Princes Reach) down by Princess Dock and apparantly this is on the move, http://www.liverpoolwaters.co.uk/p/80m-residential-skyscraper-attracts-middle-eastern-investment I belive that smaller announcements have been made for the same area, William Jessop House being one.

The kicker for Peel would be a mixed use venue that could attract the worlds elite, something that in partnership could be a very lucrative for both parties. I'm keeping my ear well to the ground on this one

Wouldn't put it past JA to get us to build a commonwealth stadium in crocky, then tell us it's not financially viable to bid for the games. But thanks for sorting out SBC though.

Thats exactly what im thinking and without any offence to croxteth its as bad if not worse than the Kirkby situation;its a make or break for the club and something we have to get right

For me the best option is Stanley Park with the proviso of turning the goodison footprint back to public parkland.

This would be much cheaper than the docks even though we'd lose development opportunities at goodison.

There'd be no overall loss of green space for the area, nor any loss to local businesses.

It would also be a huge boost to our profile.. there being two 55000 seater stadiums next to each other.

Why there are only 2 options on the table now that we supposedly have finances?

If you believe Joe Anderson then yes- he has said we are now able to fund it ourselves. The Council will push Stonebridge as it is a large area of land that they presently can't seem to do anything with so it would solve a big problem for them.

And we should do it alone. The CG angle is just Anderson latching onto something that actually is going to happen (a new stadium)*. We should not compromise our requirements for a theoretical CG bid from a council who when circumstances were different offered no support whatsoever.

*assuming a redeveloped GP is out of the question

Princes Reach isn't the Shanghai Tower, its just one of four 30-40 Storey towers that are pretty much ready to go in the immediate vicinity. The Shanghai Tower is still a possiblity outside of those four as far as I'm aware. Princes Reach is happening now, though still requires a lot of design and development.

I hope it's the docks. The Kings Dock stadium looked a beauty. I imagine one of the reasons WHP was scrapped was because we don't need to do it on the cheap now.

And maybe an unwillingness to develop a 'greenfield' site when 'brownfield' in better locations seem possible.

Most Londoners would be surprised to discover that Stratford isn't in London...given that it very definitely is. London postcode. London borough. London. I live in North London. My wife comes from Walthamstow originally. Stratford isn't some far flung wilderness. It was the largest, most central development zone available, well connected to the City and as such a blindingly obvious choice for The Olympics.

In the case of Liverpool both the Northern Docks and Stonebridge Cross are development zones. The former would have the biggest economic impact if Peel can be convinced. The latter would solve a bigger problem for the city as it is a less attractive to developers/harder to shift.

It is obvious why LCC should be keener on SC for us. It is equally obvious why we should prefer the Docks. Money gets what money wants and it seems we finally have money.
