we've sold ourselves short imo and will come back to bite us in the near future.

What would you have built the capacity at out of interest? Bearing in mind Toms comment about overall cost, 60k may have tipped the cost to well over a billion.

Put simply, we could / can not afford that.

62-65k. I love the stadium design, location and everything as much as the next man but the capacity really is disapointing for me and i know i'm not alone in that. If i had a choice of 65k in walton or BMD at 53k i'd obviously rather BMD, so size isnt everything but it's a slight disapointment.

I think everyone would love a bigger stadium but I think 53K is fine.
There's only a hand full of club stadiums around Europe with higher capacity. Some of them are shared, some are also national stadiums, others are athletic stadiums. The number of unique club specific stadiums above 53k is very small.
I doubt there's any clubs that have never made the group stages of the CL with a purpose built 53k stadium.
I doubt there's any clubs that havent won anything in nearly 30 years with a purpose built 53k stadium.
It's bigger than where Juventus, PSG, Porto, and pretty much every Spanish side bar 3 play.
For where we're at, it's fine.
Infact we're incredibly lucky (fingers crossed!)

I think the east and west stand had 3 tiers not the two we see now, also the roof would have been done 7 metres higher

Presumably there is room for expansion on these stands in future then? (Probably 10+ years down the line).

Assuming we would raise the roof then I suppose but that would mess up the aesthetic somewhat.

More likely the do the north stand or safe standing would be used to increase capacity
