New Everton Stadium

Yup but they tried once before mate, nothing saying they won't try it again is there?

They tried that because it was linked to the Tesco development with some cross-subsidy towards the stadium. It was kicked out because of the scale of retail development needed to produce the subsidy.

Stonebridge Cross is being pushed by the Council because they can't attract enough employment users. Quite honestly I think it is a very poor location for a stadium.

The problems being raised in respect of the Docks are not insurmountable, but the solutions would probably be more costly than developing at SC.

Ah okay, so I'm spinning this to myself thus:

We want the docks, Peel are dragging their heels. A carefully-placed Stonebridge Cross brochure in a mayoral tweet about short timeframes makes it look like we're ready to go that way.

Now Peel need to go all Alan Partridge by panicking, blocking us in at the squash courts and lowering their price.
Problem is, it's not carefully placed. It's taken some pretty good sleuthing to figure out what the document is, so I'm minded to think it's an error on their part rather than a sneaky, intentional forcing of a hand.

This is like that moment on referendum night when it began to dawn on folk that Leave was going to win.

But no doubt there is also documents there relating to the docks etc

That's not the point. SC is very much under discussion at that meeting, and more concerning is that it's the Mayoral Plan that is being reviewed, with the mayor. He's clearly pushing Moshiri and Bill towards the SC option - gives Joe a huge partner in his campaign, and no doubt gives Everton a pretty sweet deal out of it which would be hard to turn down.

If the docks are discussed, you can guarantee it's Everton doing the talking and Joe doing everything he can to push the conversation back to SC.

It's the perfect level of placement. Just enough to ID the document, as indeed we have. It's probably an even easier job for those familiar with the document, like Peel.

They were hardly going to brandish it at the camera.

I reckon Anderson is our willing stooge in all this.

You keep telling yourself that. I'm way more skeptical I'm afraid.

One, thing that worries me (if it can be a worry) is a timescale of 2 years to build it. The pessimist in me would suggest that to achieve a new build in such a relatively small time would be at the expense of the quality of the stadium. Being optimistic you could argue that if it is a 2 year timescale that it could well be a docks location and imported steel and other infrastructure required would just be imported directly to the docks area. This obviously would reduce transport costs and save time getting the steel off the docks and transported to a more inland site within the city. The friends arena in Stockholm had a 3 year build timescale even withstanding the poor winters experienced in Sweden and it has a retractable roof. So maybe a 2 year timescale is feasible after all.

SC is the still rotting corpse of DK. Unless the laws on private car journeys have changed then the same infrastructure issues exist at this site as at Kirkby (in fact worse as even Kirkby has a one-track rail link). DK required one of the countries busiest bus stations (which was reduced midweek) and 'crush loading' of trains to ferry supporters to and from the stadium. Unless there is major infrastructure investment SC will fail on this aspect alone.

Any new stadium must in my opinion be better connected to Liverpool city centre via public transport than GP as an absolute minimum requirement. If there are no locations then redevelopment should be the preferred option.

From what I read about Moshiri, and admittedly that is all from forum ITKs, I cannot believe he would make the same mistakes as Kenwright, Wyness and Elstone.
