New Stadium- How to size it?

Why isn't 60,000 realistic? A 50,000 seater stadium would only be the 9th largest stadium in English club football by the time it opens. Newcastle are the only one of those we'd overtake at 55,000. We won't compete with those clubs for players or trophies long-term with a stadium smaller than theirs. We absolutely would sell out a new 60,000 arena right now, for Burnley at home!

My sentiments exactly.

We need to be ambitious- we need the biggest stadium in the city, we need to push our chests out and jump above the likes of Newcastle and brush our shoulders with the likes of Spurs and Chelsea.

Yup, we'd be a laughing stock with a new stadium that's smaller than that of Newcastle United.

I'm not sure we should be looking to match Tottenham's new ground, though. A capacity of just 60,000 would be sufficient.

I remember reading on one of the threads cost per seat in a new build averages out at 6-7k

Unfortunately I cannot emember if that was Dollars or Pounds. If it's pounds it's between 50'000 and 58'000

I\d much sooner have a stunning looking 50K than a Flat Pack 60k.

When has capacity determined ambition by the way? Juve only have 40k in their Stadium and i bet no player has went 'EY ACTUALLY ILL SIGN FOR NEWCASTLE COZ DEY HAVE 52k STADIUM AND JUVE ONLY HAVE 40k, WHERZ DA AMBISHUN?!'

Had a rethink and not quite sure where the 50,000-55,000+ expectations are coming from. We're not even selling out Goodison at the moment and what would be the point in having even more empty seats than we do already?

No, I think we should build the new ground with a capacity of 44,074 which is exactly 10,000 below the new Anfield. LFC are a good example to follow to base our new Stadium on as they've always lead the way with things like this in the City. If we increase the away end to 5 or 6,000 when the big teams come then I fully believe we will fill a ground that size though.
Are you serious? I know you mean this in jest mate but it doesn't read that way.

Every game has sold out this season with a season ticket waiting list.

How to size it? Definitely not 50,000!

If we add 5k executive/hospitality seats it will leave us with an extra 5k to meet the current demand. That would mean it will be almost impossible to get a ticket to see Everton play.

55k should be bare minimum, 58-62k would be a sign of intent and ambition.

They do it so it's always full and has a great atmosphere. Plus the majority of money in Italian football comes from TV rights (and probably the mafia) - games there are on like 10 channels.

50k is about right - a massive increase on Goodison's capacity and with zero restricted views. The last thing we want is to be the butt of the same jokes as Shitteh with the "Emptihad" quips. Those saying 60k or so - I'm not sure where you're expecting all the new season ticket holders to come from?

We have 40k, perhaps it will rise further, applications for this season. The 50k figure is way too low based on the current figures. Don't undersell us.

It was an attempt at humour but as you said, hasn't been read that way judging by the comments and dislikes lol. I made numerous posts yesterday pointing out that every home game has sold out this season, and just 2 posts above that one, I said this:

'The more I think of it, if we make the pricing affordable which we no doubt will, suggestions of sub 55,000 are selling us short. 55,000-60,000 is the right amount for now.'

So that is my actual opinion on the subject.

In the post you've quoted I tried to squeeze in all the Kopite delusion.
  • Not selling out at the moment
  • Empty seats
  • Base our capacity on them
  • They've always lead the way with Stadiums in the City
  • May fill it when the big teams come if we give them a huge allocation
Think I ticked them all off to be honest!

I'm just hoping the 50k is only used to get over the council in that meeting in the coming weeks, once that's been rubber stamped that's when the club will properly look at lenders and then look at the cost of the design and capacity I would imagine.

I bloody hope so anyway 50k is too small. I really hope the designs are boss aswell, I want something blue and modern!

As mentioned elsewhere I'm in no doubt the 50k was just a figure placed onto some documents. Like you say 50k gives us zero room for growth, aim had to be 60 for me.

Might be that by quoting 50k and 300 million makes it more palatable to the council cabinet and joe public, then when it's about to be built suddenly it goes to 70k and 500 million!!

Well i can dream can't I! :)
