One thing has long puzzled me about your neck of the woods. Forgive my possible geography lapse, but the number of great players from Newcastle seems totally out of step with the lack of them from Sunderland, which is pretty close together.

Without delving into Google, Gaza, Beardsly, Waddle and Shearer are all way better than Good. Sunderland offer us the 2 Jordans, and after that, I struggle.

Sunderland have produced some excellent players to be fair, but back in the day. As time has gone by Newcastle have often been a more attractive option for kids to learn their trade. Our production line started to dry up under Keegan when he abandoned the youth team to preserve the pitch at St James, got a little better under Robson, but since Ashley took over there's been little to no investment.

Sunderland have an excellent academy facility, way better than ours, and were they not in league 1 they might be a more attractive place for kids from the region or further afield to start off.
