Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

No, who said it was? You asked why I hadn't included him, that's the reason.

It's still irrelevant when talking about the style of football being played and the squad he has to work with. He has a worse squad than Benitez whether he's had a full season or not.

I don't know which option it would be but it could be either. However in fairness either one probably doesn't impact upon us in quite the way people think it might.

As for Eduoard I really like the player, but sense he may want European football. It's hard though, we found this, you end up offering players lots of money to join, but then there is a question about the sort of person that signs primarily for money.

In a lot of ways I'll probably contradict myself, and say maybe having Benitez for a bit, while you try and sort out the backroom side of it might work. He can just identify who he wants, you'll probably pay a bit more than they are worth as tends to be the case with Benitez, but in general he has a good eye.
I'd be torn on Benitez. He's a good coach, he'll know most of the squad already and know where we need to improve. He had submitted plans to upgrade the facilities and academy etc. However, there's always a concern about going back. You're right, he did sign some good players (Schar, Almiron, and players fit for purpose in the Championship season like Ritchie and Gayle), but he's bought some stinkers as well; Sels, Lazaar, Gamez etc. How much of that was because of budget/recruitment restrictions, I dunno?

Give him a couple of seasons then replace him with someone a little more adventurous/exciting? Maybe even offer him a DoF role?

Whats the story with this mysterious loan between Ashley and Staveley mate?

No idea where we could have ended up/will end up to be fair. Bruce had until very recently been playing the worst football in the league by most metrics. Yet somehow got a good amount of points in this bizarre season. He may well have seen results catch up with performances and we could have ended up closer to 17th than we are now.

Unless of course, the praise for Bruce is an indirect swipe at Benitez? In which case there's little point going on, is there?

I don't think he would suit a DOF role really. He's quite short term and gets away with a fair bit because he's strong tactically and buys players who suit that system.

If I were Newcastle and really wanted to get to the top I'd be aiming higher, but if we work from the premise a reputation of Chelsea/City may not be possible then he could be probably quite a good short term manager, if someone keeps a bit of a lead on him (as we didn't with Koeman).

Doesnt he own 100% of the club though?

Yes, it's all very fishy to me. Look it may be something and nothing, but we didn't see any of these antics with Chelsea/City's takeover. You also have to factor in Liverpool and FSG also felt these guys were time wasters, had no relation or connection to the Saudi wealth fund (not just what Mike Ashley felt). And they are scramingling around barely able to raise £340m, taking loans from Ashley to cover it.

I mean I'm no fan of Mike Ashley, but I can completely understand why he would be a bit sceptical in all of this.

Different groups, wasn't in Staveley + Dubai INternational Capital that were interested in Liverpool?
