Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

So, ‘has beens’ then? Just as I suspected.

Any of those would instantly make that team better and kick start their business. Remember Siggurdson was our headline signing and took us 4 years to get a name like Rodriguez in.

The trick would obviously be getting in the right manager and the players that compliment those creative types that doesn't trash the system, like what we did.

The thing is with them, and we found this too, is that the "top young players" are just going to have no interest in going there. Malaga were owned by a Sheikh for a bit, and Malaga is sunny, warm and are a bigger club than Newcastle, and they couldn't attract said players. Newcastle have no name recognition, they've not won a league in almost any living person's lifetime, and have not played in Europe in most of the players living lifetime. There is just no way they will attract players, who want to win things over the next 3-4 years. They don't have the stadium, name, training facilities, tradition etc to attract such players.

People talk about Chelsea, but Chelsea were a top 6 team when taken over, and had been regularly trophy winners and title challengers. So it was easier for them to go and get those top players. It didn't seem such a big jump. City was slightly different granted, but they were still top half and pumped a fair bit in in the previous couple of seasons. They were probably where we are now, and so the jump was more doable. Newcastle are perennial relegation fodder. They have a long way to jump back.

If the plan is top young players, they are going to really struggle to execute that game plan.
Chelsea beat Liverpool on the last game of the season and got CL then he bought them.

The City transition too a lot longer than Chelsea due to their position. They'd been back in the prem for 5 years before Shiniwatra took over in 2007. Highest position they had was 8th, lowest was 16th.

Shiek too over in 2008 and it wasn't until 2011 when they won the FA Cup and finished 3rd. Jumping from 10th to 5th the previous 2 years. Eventually winning the league in 2012.

So...4 years to progress to where they are without FFP caps. City were an bang average/poor side until 2008 but a "safe" project with a brand spanking new ground for free

Newcastle are just awful. Relegated twice in 10 years. Highest league position 5th. Lowest 18th. Now with FFP caps, in need of a new manager, and a overhaul of their squad.

They're gonna need the money, a lot more time, and make the right decisions before they can tackle the top 6 never mind top 4. A huge job.

Yes very good point. And as you say, City were further ahead than Newcastle. Also worth saying a lot of competition ahead of Newcastle now that wasnt there for Chelsea and even City.

Then you have the fans impatience. It's going to be very volatile. I think they might be 3-4 years off getting to say our/Leicesters level.

The investment in Newcastle (the city) will be absolutely enormous in the coming years.

There's no surprise the Saudis picked Newcastle either. Look at its location, its port out to the north sea, the massive developments happening in the renewables sector over the next 10 years.

As for the club, Ashley being so tight has, in terms of FFP, put them in a good position.

But, they're still Newcastle and right now, a relegation candidate. So it's going to take time.

However, have seen a lot of Everton fans (namely the ones who always seem to refuse our club can do any wrong) saying Newcastle will never have a chance etc.

Nah, this is big, much bigger than our buy out. While I don't think they're going to become a super club anytime soon, I think that by the time Everton are moving to BMD, then there's definitely going to be another player we're wanting to try and compete with.

Would be naive/ignorant to think otherwise.
