Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

The investment in Newcastle (the city) will be absolutely enormous in the coming years.

There's no surprise the Saudis picked Newcastle either. Look at its location, its port out to the north sea, the massive developments happening in the renewables sector over the next 10 years.
Bet Hull Fc, Sunderland and Boro are gutted they'd be a far cheaper option.

As for the club, Ashley being so tight has, in terms of FFP, put them in a good position.

But, they're still Newcastle and right now, a relegation candidate. So it's going to take time.

However, have seen a lot of Everton fans (namely the ones who always seem to refuse our club can do any wrong) saying Newcastle will never have a chance etc.

Nah, this is big, much bigger than our buy out. While I don't think they're going to become a super club anytime soon, I think that by the time Everton are moving to BMD, then there's definitely going to be another player we're wanting to try and compete with.

Would be naive/ignorant to think otherwise.

6 years imo from where they are now.

And that's if they buy wisely, get a good manager, give them time etc. And we all know that's never a guarantee.

I'd they go into Jan with a new manager and spend £100mill...slippery slope imo

Newcastle has a deepwater port. Unsure on the others (Hull I guess would?).

Newcastle is a university city too, built around the ground and the club is a huge part of the community.

As a 'way in' to the Premier League, it was a no brainer. And it's a gateway to a lot of investment.

Only have to look at the amount of money City's owners have pumped into Manchester. They pretty much own all of the property development in the east of Manchester too.

Just like Usmanov will be investing heavily into Liverpool waters...

We won't move into BMD until when, 2024/2025?

Like I said mate, I think by then, we'll be pushing as a top-four side - or that's the hope at least (we've seen no progress on it, like).

I see Newcastle being in a similar position.

They'll try for Conte. Don't think they'll get him yet. It'll be Lampard, Gerrard, or someone similar, to start with, and a few cast offs/buying the best players from clubs around them.

If these owners are smart, they look at what we did, and do the opposite in terms of fees. COVID has, ironically, helped that.

It would be naive/ignorant to believe Everton stand still at that point too.

Either the Usmanov link becomes formal or the club owner will be looking to bag a takeover himself.

Can't see them being smart. There's too much money to be smart with.

Fancy getting Lampard in for a relegation struggling side in. It's a different ball game.

Malaga are a bigger club than Newcastle.

And on the 2nd, PIF have an entire investment fund of 250bn. That is for the entire countries investment fund. Let's assume they allocate 1% of that for Newcastle (not an unreasonable number) that gives them around 2bn to invest after initial purchase. I mean it's sizeable sure, but it's not off the scale, and relative to monies paid at a given time not so different to Malaga. And this is very much "best case scenario".

FFP regs will prevent them paying 3-400k. But yes, if they offered 300k p/w for Alex Iwobi he will go there. Mbappe will just go to Real Madrid for that money though. They will probably have to pay 300k p/w for a player that would otherwise get 100k.
I’m busy sorry so only a quick reply… you reckon that a nation state has invested in Newcastle to only compete? Mate Staveley has said they want to be comparable to psg and City.
A quick google… 582E5BD9-E58A-4703-ADB6-5F68B6AEEC92.webpthey won’t care about ffp, like city didn’t.
They aren’t bigger than Newcastle, not even close mate. Let’s see what happens, on my view it just makes it even harder for us to compete.

This makes it harder for the 'other' thirteen to compete.
What irks me a little is all this self righteous dirty money, state supported, shouldn't be allowed nonsense.
In the scheme of things nobody really cares.

They probably won't win anything for five or six years, but if they do the Newcastle supporters will be jubilant and the rest of us indignant.

Oh, apart from the 'other' thirteen, who would have welcomed the investment with open arms, were it one of them.

At the end of the day the clubs should be allowed to spend whatever money they want, they should not be allowed to be effectively owned by countries though.

They're fortunate the PL ratified the deal prior to January as without the right investment I'd suspect they would be reasonable relegation candidates.

However, it will bring about its own problems as they'll be expected to spend, but as you say will it wisely as part of a wider plan? Who'll be in charge then?

It'll be easy for them to throw money at the problem but we, like other clubs, saw for ourselves how this doesn't always have the outcome you'd hope for.

There'll be some duff buys that will cost them a lot in terms of fees and wages. It'll likely be enough to save them, but you've then got them on your books.

For me, it's a minimum of five years for them to get themselves in order although in reality it wouldn't surprise me to be a lot longer.

Ultimately, the PL and the government have ratified the deal because they'll have done enough to satisfy (bury) the whole human rights issues*...

... and they've sorted the pirating deal. The latter means more money for the PL and the UK, which will make the government happy enough to close their eyes.

*selling weapons to bomb Yemen doesn't bother them.

In one fell swoop, the barcodes become the richest club in the world...and by a mile.
Give it maybe 5 or 6 years and it'll be them and Man City coming first and second...daylight will be third.
