i was going to see how old ferdinand was when he was made club captain by man utd and found out he was never made club captain, he was captain for the odd game every now and then but during the prem era their club captains were roy keane, gary neville, vidic and then rooney.
he did become club captain for leeds in 2001 when he was 22 or 23 i think similar age to godfrey now.

For me a captain is someone who can inspire, rally the troops and also someone who is respected by the whole team. They need to be able to communicate to all personalities from the extroverts to the introverts, not just be the guy with the loudest voice and the moodiest face. As an introvert myself, the best captains got the best from me by encouraging rather than shouting. Therefore on the basis of the current squad there’s only a very few who tick all criteria and that’s DCL, Allan and at a push Keane. These guys don’t sulk or moan, can be seen trying to encourage and above all you know the other players would listen to them.

It will be whoever is on the pitch with the most appearances for Everton. Carlo has been operating that way since he came in. Coleman has been captain, then it’s been passed to Sigurdsson if he’s playing, if not it’s been Keane, and then as soon as Holgate was back he got the armband instead of Keane. Some of these players aren’t even guaranteed to be in the first team. There’s a clear pattern, Carlo is just giving it to the most senior player on almost every occasion. The Italian national team have done this for ages. It just doesn’t feel like a big deal for Carlo.
If I had to pick I’d give it to Allan because he is going to be in the team if fit, and had the mentality and seniority to be respected by all team mates.
