Laurent Blanc should be the front runner for literally ANY big job. All that guy did was win. Sure it was Ligue 1, but he did well to even compete in the Champions League with some of those clubs.

Comparing Unsworth to Pep at Barca is mind boggling

Why? Comparing one ex player with no first team managers experience to another who was given the job with no first team managers experience is mind boggling why?

I was using it as an example of when ex players with no management experience were given the opportunity to manage their clubs first team.

I've seen a few people saying it now. And I think anyone using Pep as a reason we should appoint Unsworth should be banned tbh.

So should zidane then, right?

So should sherwood.

So should Guillet.

So should any ex player that's managed their former team with no experience of first team management.

I was using it in retort of using sherwood as a reason not to

Anyways comparison between Guardiola and Unsworth. Or between Everton and Barca/Real Madrid is utterly mind boggling to me.

We'll he's the ultimate success story (maybe Zidane in a few years) so why wouldn't people say 'this is what's possible'

It's not like he's the only one, he's just the easiest to cite

I like Unsworth and i'm sure if he came in he'd do a sound job and we'd end somewhere in the top half but i don't think he's the man to take us to another level. I know people talk about the likes of Zidane jumping straight into a big job and doing good - well he's got some of the greatest players in the world. Unsworth would get a reaction out of the lads no doubt, gives some of the youngsters a good go but that honey period would soon fade and then we'd struggle again. He's got potential to be a good premiership manager in future, it should happen for him when the time is right.

Ancelotti isn't for me

You look at the sides he has managed (and I've read his book) and I just don't see him either wanting to or making a success of managing a mid-table Premier League side

Tuchel, perhaps. Did great things at Mainz, and was doing well at Dortmund but it seemed to fall apart a bit at the end, particularly with regard to his relationship with their sporting director. He's actually the guy I wanted when we got Martinez.

Silva isn't going to leave Watford this early, but TBH I think I'd want to see more than a good 25 games or whatever he's had before I thought he was worth taking a punt on (plus I think there's a good chance his brand of football wouldn't go over too well here).

If we sack Koeman and Tuchel doesn't fancy it, I'd be prepared to see how Unsworth did until the end of the season. He's been excellent with our kids, so at least giving him the chance to see if he could step it up on a temporary basis might be fair and there have been some great managers who have made that journey - Guardiola and Zidane for a start!
