I wouldn't be against Unsworth getting it even if I think it's a risk and we are liable to wind up lower mid table at best, if we are going after our number one target in the summer. Just make the decision this drift is poor.

Agree with that, Rye. So if we can't get one of the high-end pedigree managers, then do we give Unsworth a chance or do we plump for an equally-unproven candidate, paying whatever compensation and again changing all manner of background staff to accommodate.

It's a really good point mate. I think Silva's CV is better than Unsworth, though Unsworth "gets" the club. I think a lot depends on a) your confidence we can attract a top target in the summer and b) how much trouble you feel we are currently in. No easy answer. I would be happy with either, particularly if Unworths gets a couple of good results, (I think he needs at least 1 win in the next 2 to keep him in with a chance).

100% give him a chance camp considering the high-end candidates don't want to come. Contract 'til end of the season then we shall see.

What philosophy is that, billy?

Fast tempo, aggressive yet also stylish football that's what the fans want anyway. Not hoofball. Also ambition above merely drifting around mid table, and that is only possible with adventurous football. Whether we have the players to compete probably not right now but it needs to be a Martinez like project but not built on sand and delusion. Can Unsy deliver this I'm not sure yet, sixty minutes across four games isn't that promising.

Nicely put, agree with that. Rhino might be able to deliver, if given a chance. We don't know unless he gets a run of games. Just as we don't know if the other middling candidates would offer this.

Wait til end of the season ? @dholiday
Could be too late then , when the Top End managers look at our fixtures Brentford ,Millwall & Burton Albion they wont even return the calls.
As good a blue as he is , he wasnt got any experience at all. Relegation is a very real possibility if he gets the job.
FWIW I want Tuchel but I also think Silva will be a Top manager in a few years.

There's also a c) option: Confidence in Unsworth doing quite well and then getting a deserved 3-year extension in the summer.

Yes without doubt. In many ways thats a perfect option for Everton, that Unsworth can replicate the fantastic work he's done at reserves for the first team. If he can get anywhere close to what he did for the reserves in his role as first team manager he stands a real chance of making us successful.

Fuming at Moyes being included as an option.
There were times at Everton when Moyes was close so was not that concerned about him coming back. Then heared him being Mr Arrogant again at West Ham, talking about himself in third person and forgetting he has never won a thing. Thank the Lord he is not available.

I disagree, louis, on both points. Silva is a lower-end Villas Boas.

I would want any manager to be doing significantly better than 'quite well' before he was awarded a 3 year contract.

Then we'll have to define 'quite well'. For me it's mid-table stability this season plus a decent FA Cup run, coupled with a couple of memorable performances/results against the top teams.

Agreed.
