The table doesn't lie won 14 lost 14 scored 51 against 50 is this not similar to Martinez stuff only thing is he won the Europa league three times in a row and yes he has been very good with money what ever the decision our board have a very hard decision on there hands
His league record in Spain is 6,3,3,3,5,5 & 7 - during this time he's had a negative net spend of £146 million. If you think that's Martinez like then I despair. Constantly selling your best players and having to develop younger players is bloody hard.

Emery would certainly be an improvement on Martinez, but I'm not entirely sold on him, though saying that i'm not exactly sure why...

I think that just shows a total lack of imagination on the commentators' part, or he was being toungue-in-cheek.

I'm led to believe that Emery hasn't won away in the league all season and I don't think we need another cup manager, personally.

If we want someone to wind the reds up, Jose will do that very capably.
He's not just a cup manager!

He's not just a cup manager!

I think to do what he's done in two cups this season is a fantastic achievement but they have severely (no pun intended) underperformed in the league this season.

Now, personally I feel that's probably down to losing one too-many key players last summer, though that been said they have recruited well as they always do and Gameiro's goals have replaced Bacca's.

Overall, though, their league campaign has disappointed and really that's similar to ours in a way - however they make sure they make the most of the cup competitions to once again qualify for the CL.

@micknick has just been saying this to me too.

I see the appeal, and I'm not dead set against him as there's certainly worse options (Moyes, Hughes etc), but I think we'd probably all prefer Jose for example.

If Jose or Koeman doesn't happen I'd say he'd be a good back up choice certainly.

This.

Jose is the ideal, first choice candidate but I suppose it is unlikely to happen.

Koeman has to be the next up for the me - purely as he has the Prem experience and I think he's suited to be the player who develops the youngsters we have.

Then probably Cocu/Emery/De Boer would both be fine choices as well. However, my main question mark with Emery would be that he very rarely brings through/encourages youth. I'm not meaning that in a bad way, but he's very much like Moyes in the sense that he can snatch a bargain out of nowhere and will introduce youth players slowly over time.

In a way that's fine, but I don't think he'd be as good as boosting the youngsters that we have into first-team regulars as Koeman, Cocu or De Boer would.

I think both Jose & Koeman are unlikely to happen....

Emery can have a contact, but I suppose it is unlikely to happen too.

De boer, no thanks, he is overrated, lack of experience in both clubs and top football leagues.

Pellegrini and Moyes are candidates who are more realistic.....
