This is the bit I don't understand.

We averaged 6th place and 60 points under Moyes in his last 7 years with basically no financial backing yet people say he lowered expectation and only finished midtable. Only Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal finished in the top 7 more than us in that time.

I'm not saying I want Moyes back but to make out he was some terrible manager who had us bobbing along in 12th is just plain wrong.

People are making out that Koeman would be a massive step up when he got a similarly financed team to a similar position in the league.

Although I don’t think Moyes will be back, it is not disaster when he finally return, if we need to build new stadium and hence limited resources in several years, I think a safety option Moyes can provide us consistent results with limited resources until we pay for the debt from new stadium like Arsenal. We want to build a new stadium for more than 15 years, I am willing to maintain top 10 with occasionally european competitions for several years and then I can sit on a new stadium within 5 years.

I find this below even more concerning than the concern I read above..

There's always a buyout clause in Spanish Football, if it applies to manager, we'll need to cough up ridiculous amount of money for him.

Just after the ridiculous amount we had to pay our last one for Bill's stupidity? That £100m transfer kitty is looking a lot lower suddenly.

My pick would be Andre Villas Boas.
  • Killed it at Porto when he was younger then some of the players.
  • Took on Chelsea when he was way too young, only 33 and the ego's in the dressing room undermined him.
  • Bounced back with Spurs, lead them to 72pts in a season, before losing Bale and had to rebuild.
  • Has done very well with Zenit.
Still only 39. Available and free. Chelsea had paid £15M for his release from Porto back in the day.
Always came across as a very cold fish to me, very hard for either players or press to warm to which likely explained why he probably got a rougher ride in the media than his results probably warranted.
Does carry off a sash extremely well though, a talent sadly underrated in these modern times.

You'd like to think he will improve on this with age. Aside from Chelsea, players warming to him doesn't seem to be an issue. His results (trophies won) and CV would stack up against anyone under 40.

Should be in the mix.
