You know what I think they would! He'd know he couldn't spend like he did at Chelsea, and may like the idea of doing here what he did at Porto on a relatively small budget! Who cares if he's only here a couple of years, he's a winner and as close as it gets to guaranteeing trophies. If he then went in 2/3 years time as he historically does, top class managers would be queuing up to take over! As you can probably guess I'd take him in a flash - and he may actually still be available now, but guaranteed he won't be in July!

I was just saying earlier he should take on a challenge/project for his next job.

I guess there is an element of that with his name. End of the day Martinez was a massive gamble, having won the cup and relegated his team. I would take the questions above for martinez before we got him and probably not hire him either.

Any manager we go for, unless its the top managers in the world, even then - would be a gamble. I like the football Ajax play from what i have seen of them, others might have better insight.

I would rather take a gamble on him, like southampton did with Koeman, then get someone like Hughes in.

Agree, hughes would be a downer.
We need a manager that fits us and our players so that would mean we need a manager who can develop young players, this rules out Jose right away even tho we have no chance of getting him. We also need someone who can bring big names to our club. Plus someone who can change a game and a winner mentality.

hahaha not a hard ask then really ;)

You know, i get the point about Jose, but he has been at clubs where he has had all the money in the world. At Porto he done a fine job on a budget with their younger players. We have no chance, maybe a 1% chance, but what a time to be alive if we did.

I think more people would likely sign for Frank de Boer because of what he accomplished playing and what he has done at Ajax so far, then someone like Hughes or Howe.

I think we're well positioned to get a top manager should Martinez get the boot.
The club has a good academy setup,
a good first XI to start with,
A couple of possible world class players,
Some money to build a team,
A good fan base.
It looks like Man City, United, Chelsea, liverpool, Spurs, West Ham and most likely Arsenal won't be looking for new bosses. This would put Everton at the head of the queue with regards to a vacant managerial position in the richest league in the world.
If Mourinho feels he has something to prove in England, and I think he might, I don't see him (or Pellegrini) holding out for another season waiting for a bigger English club to have a vacancy.

The Mourinho question is a funny one.

I'll preface it by saying that obviously it's INCREDIBLY unlikely that we actually get him.

However, there IS some logic in it. First you have to look at two things, and IF you accept them as true (not saying either is guaranteed, but as a thought exercise):

1) He has said that his next job will be in England. Now obviously this can change, but let's stick with it for a minute.

2) It's looking increasingly unlikely over the last few weeks that he'll be going to Utd. A month or so ago it looked nailed on, but an increasing number of stories seem to be coming out referencing van Gaal still being there next season, the budget he's agreed and the targets he wants. Again, this could all be wrong and José might end up there. But it doesn't seem as signed sealed delivered as it was before.

Now back to us... IF Mourinho doesn't get the Utd job and IF he still wants his next job to be in England... You have to ask the question where is he going to go?

Ok we've been awful this (and last season) but I don't think there's a person in world football (except maybe davek) who doesn't think we've massively underachieved where we should be.

Look at the teams traditionally above us, and ask, is Mourinho likely to end up there?

Chelsea: Conte
Man City: Pep
Arsenal: Wenger unlikely to go anywhere, and if he did he'd likely have a hand in appointing his successor, and he and Mourinho can't STAND each other
Liverpool: Klopp
Man Utd: covered above
Spurs: interesting one. Could see him here if Pochettino got tempted away, and there have been stories about Utd wanting him, but is he really going to want to leave them when they're going to make the CL and possibly even more?

Which sort of leaves José a bit short on options.

All a lot of conjecture, and MASSIVELY unlikely, but there is a small thread of logic. Plus it's nice to daydream about...

That's my thinking and any club with ambition would see it as our best chance to get him in... but we won't, we'll keep el coco for another year then once he's given the boot for another pee poor season the likes of Jose and Mancini will be in new jobs.

It's annoying how obvious the situation is but we won't get rid, like how Mclaren was doomed at Newcastle but was kept on for far far too long and look at them.

Dont worry about it, the players have got this, they want him out as much as we do.

He wont last the season.

Wage bill 2014 joint 9th
Wage bill 2015 11th

Thats the benchmark for league placing.
I'm reliably informed this is immaculate. We have the 8th highest wage bill and 10th highest spend and when you consider a 1/5 of our strongest line up IMHO would consist of Stones and Barkley who cost the club in fees abar £3m it's a nothing point.
