There is a hell of a lot of negativity regarding Keoman's potential appointment and a lot of it is caused by the disappointment of not landing Emery. Most contributors on here had not even heard of Emery til a few weeks ago, then he became flavour of the month. Apart from his cup wins, his record is not as impressive as Keoman's. And look what happened last time we appointed a manager on the strength of a cup win.

What youth players has he brought through other than targett?

Ward-Prowse, for one - made him a key part of the side.

Pochettino didn't bring through much more.

There's also the lad Gallagher - though not sure how many apps he made.

You're obsessed with youth Zat - but the thing is we've already got established young first team players. We don't need to focus on 'bringing any more through' - as they're already there...

However, Koeman won't be afraid to play them and keep giving them key roles, and I think the likes of Davies and Dowell may get more of a look-in.

He's also brought in Classe at the age of 23, and Van Dijk at the age of 23.

Supposedly, a major target for him this summer is Hakim Ziyech (22/23) and Jansen (not sure of his age).

Err... Koeman's dutch...

Zat, if we get him, it's a good appointment. Maybe a bit safe, but I'd rather that than FDB - who has huge question marks against him from people who know a lot more about the Dutch league than I do. Cocu, by the looks of it, has never been touted.

I know koemans dutch. What does that have to do with all the other foreign managers we could attract for the absurd sums banded around?

FDB and Cocu are winners....proven from the ground up....i would rather go for them than an average bloke whose mostly failed in his career.

It's not quite that simple is it?

3 x 3rd place finishes with Valencia and 3 x Europa League wins. If we are going to do stats, let's make them all available :)

What are you talking about ?

Valencia were 3rd before koeman took them towards relegation and after he was sacked with the players in open revolt emery took them back up to near ths top.

Yep, it's been well discussed he had a bad time at Valencia - though also at a time when the club was in a bit of turmoil off the field.

And he still won the Copa...

Also, that was in 2008-09. Seven years ago. He's showed he's learned from his mistakes.

Hmm, to be fair the win % is padded fairly heavily by his Dutch record and that is a tinpot league these days and has been for a while.

But - his Premier League record and overall experience, plus style of football, has me very excited for the season

Emery is a good manager - very good.

But Koeman is also a good manager, and has the added bonus of being proven in the PL.

If Emery has indeed turned our offer down, then he either has an insane offer to stay from Sevilla (plus he gets another shot at the CL next season), or he has got an offer from Milan.

Lol at FDB and Cocu again

Youreally touting 2 managers who have had no experience of managing in a top league. FDB has been touted for every job going over the years and nobody, including Spurs, Swansea and the RS have taken a gamble on him. The ajax fans seem to be made up he's gone

And top class managers, right?

Your point was about the youth he had brought through. JWP was in the side before koeman arrived and played better then than now.

Hes on record as blaming the academy for poor youth players and saying thats why hes not playing them.

There was an article i read which said that other than dutch players and those he knows from nearby countries including mane he doesnt have a good track record with signings...think was in the guardian.

I cant imagine top players wanting to sign for him with his track record so far.

So he has sprem experience, can get results on a budget and improved his team by one position at a time when us and chelsea imploded.

Plenty of foreign managers im sure we could get for £6mil+ a season.

Be honest Zat who else had done better than him in PL apart from Ranieri last season bearing in mind Koeman worked under a tight budget. He got Soton into Euro.

I would love Emery we don't know who is the first choice. He might not want to come who knows.

I understand the risk of hiring a foreign manager who has no exp in managing a PL club. Perhaps Koeman is the safe bet.
