You say our approach is genuine and I've no reason to doubt it isn't. However many papers are running with the story today, but claim 'sources' 'friends' Jose will turn us down. Do you think this to be true?
I'm certain if united offer him the job he will go there, however contrary to reports into today's press, have you heard of mourinho having shown any indication towards wanting to be manager at Everton?

There's a game being played in the press - Jose is having to hedge his bets. He'll choose United if offered almost certainly, at the same time he has to consider what if they don't offer him the job - which is a reasonable assumption, it's not a given by any means.

Jose's people approached us in early April and there's been dialogue ever since. It now suits Jose's people to let it be known that we've approached them but unofficially "not interested". Why? because it applies pressure on United. However the flip side of this is that if United don't make the offer Jose is going to find it difficult to explain why he wouldn't join us, given his very public desire to stay in the Premier League and the amount of funding and new ambition offered by Everton.

It's a very interesting situation, we're still in there.

I want de Boer, the Ajax philosophy of developing talented young players, will really suit us. Add a lasting benefit of his time here. The special one will just bring in a load of transfers and that's it. I'm sure I'd enjoy that for a season or two, especially if we win something. But I'd sooner have a long successful decade than a brilliant two years. Maybe I'm getting old.

Olsen, Koeman, Blind, ten Cate, Van Basten, Jol - bascically the list of managers who have succeeded LVG at Ajax, all with the Ajax phillosophy and unless i am mistaken not one fo them has managed to transfer it to any other club they have subsequently managed

Ajax's model works because they are Ajax, trying to just copy it without any realisation of WHY it works is daft

If he says that it's genuine and not as it's being reported, he doesn't need to explain further at this point (obviously there's only so much he can say).

Let's be honest.. a newspaper quoting "friends", isn't quoting anyone.

Mate, question to you, have you ever even remotely considered the idea that Mourinho - actually knows he won't get the job at United or maybe even or has decided to say feck it to the united job due to the messing around and NO ONE with an ego as big as he has will take that indefinitely, and right now he is playing a very smart game to try get the absolute most out of us in terms of backing and commitments made to him?

Unlikely i know, but not completely out the realms of possibility IMO

My gut feeling is that if the United board wanted Mourinho it would have been announced ages ago when LVG's side was going through such bad form.

It's a weird situation which gives us a very good opportunity to get Mourinho - something which would change the club for a long time.

I can't see us offering anything but our very best offer for him, but who knows.. maybe he wants an extra £1m a year lol

If as reported we're spending £100m on players (I know we don't know how much exactly) Will that sum rise further if we can't hang out to Stones and Lukaku? I'd like to think so, how ambitious are we going to be.

I am more thinking about commitments from Moshiri and to what control he has over all team matters, what budget he has etc mate, think wages are a secondary thing that would be sorted within minutes, he'd say this amount we'd agree...

True. We can dream of it happening, the difference in calibre of player we could attract would be huge, and Jose is the very best at getting the most out of players.
