I'm not sure United are dithering. I think they may just be a little bit more intelligent than Manchester City, and don't want to tell their current manager and players that a change in manager is imminent whilst they are still competing in the league and cup.

Vallodolid - 6 months
Ossasuna - 2 months
Extremadura - 2 years
Tenerife - 1 year
Valencia - 3 years
Liverpool - 6 years
Inter - 6 months
Chelsea - 6 months
Napoli - 2 years
Madrid - 7 months
Newcastle -2 months

Yeah mate Benetez REALLY sticks around doesn't he, he has had 11 jobs, and 6 of them have lasted between 2 and 7 months, only one has lasted 3 years and only one longer than 3 years

He makes Mourinho look a stable manager who stays put at clubs in comparision

He has said he wants a big project and that is what he wants to do next. Something he did with RS - 6 years.

I read that his agent is attending today. Dont know how true like.

It's possible, and if United do want him, they're playing a pretty big hand of poker with their current approach - that's not usually their style. Market leaders who want the "best" candidate normally just get the job done - hence my comments that there's no certainty he will go there.

The cost of taking Jose will be viewed as a business development cost - it improves our chances of retaining talent and recruiting very high quality individuals, it improves our chance of winning trophies and will certainly strengthen the negotiation hand in sponsorship and commercial deals. Therefore his "price" should not be too much of a consideration.

We're almost in a win-win situation. If we get him that's a win, if we don't but we are seen as having been genuine in our attempt to get him then that really improves our hand with a Koeman or de Boer etc.

I think we're beginning to see the changes in Everton that having a major shareholder (future owner) like Moshiri enables. We need to sort out many things at the club, but we seem to be sorting the priority which is on the pitch. The rest will come very soon thereafter.

This is what's interesting for me on the topic of the JOSE man, because the UNITED gamble on him (the waiting & fannying about) is a dangerous game for them to play. Particularly in light of how many times their similar tactic has backfired of late in relation to varying transfers etc. Also, MENDES/GESTIFUTE represent De GEA/Di MARIA etc also and I'd be pretty sure their confidence in UTD to get things done quickly and without fuss has faltered somewhat over the seasons. Can't see them being willing to allow that to happen when a huge offer to become almost & potentially legendary elsewhere is on the table...it's also a big F-YOU to UTD for sticking and failing to twist on him....and if you think THAT wouldn't appeal to JOSE also then you're wrong.

Frankly, if some fans say the don't want him or wouldn't be happy with him then they need to have a big think. It's not just about the 'management' and what he brings to that - it's the whole package and perception from the business and building perspective and - as you've stated, oh Mighty Esk - it's win all round because a concrete offer sets our stall out...

Even via coverage alone... it won't just be VINNY O and his big ear or a kid wafting a Prince-purple dildo at FF anymore... It'd become worldwide interest...on us...on EVERTON. Imagine that?

Yiiiissssssssssss......

And why shouldn't we aim that high? We may not get there, fine, but we tried at least...

As I keep repeating, almost stutter-like at times...EVERYTHING has changed, it's a completely different panorama for us as a club now, we don't have to squint at the landscape any more, it's eyes wide and soak it up time and -personally - I couldn't give neither flute nor big fig how we're viewed by other fans and pundits either...

I read shouts for MOYES yesterday and the need for 'stability' How lovely. Is that what the MOSH thought when investing, a USP of - 'Y'know what, I'd like to invest in stability, nothing more, nothing less, and we could be REALLY stable here...'

EFF OFF...

'Stability' translates as patronized for us, head-patted and look at the floor, all that...plucky little us.

Pffffttt.....

We all need to aim higher. It'll be a nice change eh...

The hand of those at Utd who want Mourinho will be considerably strengthened today if they officially fail to secure CL qualification which is likely. They will come under huge pressure internally and from the fans to be seen to act, as was the case with us this week. A possible F.A.Cup win is not enough to appease fans for a club of that stature.

It is somewhat like the situation we find ourselves in with Koeman, although I'm sure some Soton fans, of the type I've seen here, would no doubt find that hilarious.

United have to at some point definitively rule out an approach for Mourinho this summer for us to have any realistic hope. They hold the aces, and they know it. They can take as long as they wish to resolve the internal politics that may currently block an approach, and once those are overcome (today will be big in that respect, I imagine), they will formally conclude a deal with him very quickly.

On Koeman, it's him who holds the aces. He can stay there on an improved contract, and look at his options again next summer, or be tempted by the proposed transfer kitty and opportunity to further his reputation at Everton, and have a blank canvas. Obviously, he must resign from Southampton if he finds our overtures tempting enough, and again in that scenario, things would move quickly towards an appointment.

De Boer, on the other hand, is probably pressing his agent, and will be checking his phone every 10 minutes, when he returns from China. He would join us very readily I think, his backroom team and transfer targets being the only things that would require significant discussion.
