He's been great in the regular season and he's a media darling. Also, he was really poor in that Super Bowl that he won. Granted it was in a deluge, but still!
He looks to me like he's put that young Denver QBs nose out of joint in the post season. The lad is talking like he's happy about the situation but doesn't look too convincing saying it.

A lot of tension there, Imo.

But doesn't getting to more SBs count as a plus? RU over here in football goes on scrolls of honour. Maybe it's just seen as failure that side?

It's actually hard to argue, and a pretty even case. I can see taking Brady. Montana lost in the playoffs, but winning the NFC in those days was more difficult than winning the Super Bowl. One could argue Montana's SB stats are inflated due to poor competition. On Brady's side, you could argue that dissolution of the dynasties has allowed both weaker competition and more freedom to tailor the team to fit your own strengths. Montana had to go against the Giants and Redskins who were also great at the time.

Can anyone explain to me how Peyton Manning is thought of as an all time QB great in the same breath as Montana/Brady given he's won the one SB? I know it cant just come down to SB rings, but....

Relatively simply nobody can match Manning statistically. He also has 5 MVP awards and holds nearly every passing record there is. There's no doubt he's one of the all time greats but because he never won the big one more than once, he'll never be held in the same regard as Brady and Montana.

...his brother in that category too.

Absolutely not.

Thanks for the insight.

The two SB wins against the Pats in their pomp doesn't get him in that company?

He's had a great career, but he's pretty far down this list--not just in wins/starts but in talent. Elway, Aikman, Bradshaw, Tarkenton, etc., all probably rate above him. Not to mention some not on this list. Is he as good as Dawson or Theism or Plunkett? Not sure. He's no Bart Starr, and probably no Roethlisberger.

Reckon some of the old-timers would consider Otto Graham the best QB of all-time...just happened to play in the pre-Super Bowl era

It gets him more in the Jim Plunkett company.

The fact Eli has more rings than Peyton is quite unjust if you ask me. His defence has usually come up big when needed, and some of the luck he's had is Kopite-esque.
MVP in the first SB win though...?

Maybe his place in his brother's shadow sees him overlooked?

Possibly, and take what you will from what I say about him. I'm a diehard fan of a huge rival of the Giants, and I've always been irked by Eli Manning's pissing and moaning about not wanting to play in San Diego.

He is talented, but nowhere near the levels of Brady, Manning, Rodgers, hell even Luck, Romo, and Ryan. I just think he is too inconsistent and makes too many bad throws (misreading coverage) to be considered a top QB.
