NHL

They would immediately be able to support a team. So would Hamilton. The NHL and Bettman just hate Canada.

Let's move more teams to the US desert instead.

NHL should double up in big cities; Toronto needs a 2nd team and so does Chicago (or Milwaukee) but neither is happening because Bettman will cower to the owners. He's only chasing TV dollars in a league that isn't even featured on TV in most of the US.

Anyone think there might be room for a franchise in New England? the Bruins have the monopoly covering 6 States
come to think of it there are only 5 professional teams [MLB, NHL, NBA, NFL and Major League Soccer covering all of New England and all based in Massachusetts
The Hartford Whalers did ok fan based wise during their existence if not so much on the ice

Population wise it's the same as Ontario, but culture wise I don't think it works. College hockey is big there and the so much of New England is pulled into the NY market which has 3 teams already. I'd stick an expansion in another area.

I think the main challenge is that New England tends to have the population spread out in small towns rather than cities. Maybe Providence could support a team or bring back the Whalers!

Hartford does have the advantage of having the headquarters of a lot of insurance companies so I imagine they would be able to sell luxury suites if an arena were to be built

What's your view on the Stars? Blue line issues? Not sold on attack with no star power? Think Ottinger still doesn't have his groove back?
Oettinger is wobbly and Vegas sand bagged big time. A highly unfair matchup for Round 1. Meanwhile the Oilers don't even win their division and get to play a Kings team that looks like they're already dead in the water.

If Hartford could build something to share with UConn maybe that could make sense but even then it sounds like a dumb idea when I read it back in my head. Maybe the way to get Hartford back would be to make it a de facto ESPN favorite, but no idea how that would work and ESPN only seems to be interested in betting at the moment.
