ASSEM Allam has hailed the arrival of Nikica Jelavic as Hull City's "biggest ever signing" ahead of announcing a club-record £7.5m deal for the Everton striker today.
The Tigers' owner has now taken his spending on the club way past the £80m mark, having brought the 28-year-old to the KC Stadium on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
But after backing manager Steve Bruce in the transfer window, Allam believes his investment in the tenth-placed Tigers is well worth it.
He said: "The club is moving forward. We are paying a lot of money for first-class players."

Jelavic joined Everton in a £5.5m deal from Rangers in January 2012 and made an immediate impression, scoring 11 goals in 16 games before the end of the season.
City are believed to have paid £6.5m to take him to the KC, with another £1m dependant on avoiding the drop.
Although he struggled to maintain his momentum during the following campaign, Jelavic has found his first-team chances increasingly restricted this term. But he did score twice in the 4-0 FA Cup win over QPR earlier this month, and will go straight into contention to face Norwich this weekend.
