Non League Football

I'm going to Chelmsford City v Weston-Super Mare tonight in the National League South. City hoping for a 7th straight league win.
A funny ground if you haven't been before. Running track around it and temporary terracing behind the goals. Decent bar though. There's not much else near the ground so if it's a proper pre match pint you're after I'd have a beer in town.

Went to a very entertaining Aldershot 3 Rochdale1 in the Conference. Aldershot have flirted with relegation for the past couple of seasons but are in the play off places at the moment.

FC United 0-3 Marine last night

5th consecutive league win for Marine who are now up to 2nd In the table.

3 goals in second half, seal the win and off to Ilkeston away on Saturday, another huge test.

Is it true, that Marine can’t ever get promoted due to the configuration of the ground - can’t expand as would be required, due to being hemmed in by houses ?

Possibly... for ground grading requirements for promotion to the Conference North, you need to have a capacity of 3000, with a realistic potential to increase the capacity to 4000. I believe their current capacity is around 3200.

For promotion to the Conference National, you need to have a capacity of 4000, with a realistic potential to increase the capacity to 5000. And that's just the basic capacity requirement. There are plenty more boxes to tick.

I'd imagine it's theoretically possible, but would be bloody expensive to achieve for a non-league football club.

A mate, who is a season ticket holder, said they can`t make the ground any bigger, due to having houses on three sides and as such can never get promoted, as it stands.

They could potentially shift the pitch towards the main road, and create some space behind both goal ends to create a couple of decent sized stands.... it would be unconventional, though... And the locals would complain about the size of such developments. Nimby's.

Realistically, they probably need to be following the rs strategy of managed decline... see Lothair Road. I doubt Marine FC has the financial capacity to bully out the neighbors!!

The ground gradings are ridiculous given the average crowds of most of the teams.
Saw Welling beat Hampton last night but the future and ground improvements that are needed are far from secure.

Not true, Marine can actually go as High as the conference national before the ground is impacted.

There are some modifications which are needed, but as far as I'm aware they won't be an issue.

You must have been to Warrington Town , I assume they meet the capacity requirements for the National north but I thought it was a dump.
